REACTION: DE MINAUR ON WINNING IN AUSTRALIA AND THE CHALLENGE OF FACING SINNER NEXT
De Minaur addressed the Aussie support during his on-court post-match interview following his 6-0 7-6 6-3 win over Alex Michelsen.
"It means the world (to reach his first quarter-final in Australia). I love [the crowd] so much," he said to huge cheers.
"There’s nothing I want to do more than play well here in Australia. I’m glad I finally made it to the quarter-finals here. Let’s go for bigger and better things, come on."
Dissecting the way the match turned from a first-set cruise into a real battle, he said: "I had my opportunities in the second set to run away with that one as well, and not let him into the match, but I wasn’t able to close that out. He raised his level and that made it a tough match.
"That second set was pivotal. I’m extremely happy that I was able to bounce back after not a great game to get broken, and that second set was massive.
"Let’s keep it going."
Asked if his engagement to GB's Katie Boulter is behind his run to the last eight, he said: "I don’t believe in coincidences. When you’re happy off the court, you play good tennis on the court."
The No,8 seed was then quizzed about reigning champion Sinner: "I did (watch Sinner's win over Rune earlier on Day 9). It was an interesting one, for sure. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be an incredibly tough match. I’m going to have to do something that I haven’t done before, but why not start here?"

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 6-3 MICHELSEN
Aussie hopes of a home-grown Grand Slam champion in the men’s singles in Melbourne are still alive!
De Minaur blows a 30-0 lead and feels the heat when his 20-year-old American opponent presses to deuce with a booming forehand winner down the line. The World No.42 flashes just long off the same wing and then dumps one into the net to allow Demon to serve out via the scenic route in two hours and nine minutes to the delight of the Australian crowd at Rod Laver Arena.
The No.8 seed is now into his fourth straight Grand Slam quarter-final and his first on home soil.
The Aussie No.1 has it all to do in the last eight, however, as he meets reigning champion Jannik Sinner with a 0-9 record in their head-to-head.

DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 5-3 MICHELSEN
Well, Alex de Minaur, how’s your nerve?
Michelsen keeps him honest by posing the serve-out question and now it’s over to the 25-year-old Aussie to try and see it out and break new territory.

DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 5-2 MICHELSEN
It’s a nervy one from Demon as he fluffs a 30-0 lead and then an advantage at 40-30 before eventually consolidating from deuce.
The Aussie No.1 is tantalisingly close now!

BREAK! – DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 4-2 MICHELSEN
We’ve just been talking up Michelsen’s improvement – but Demon ups the ante and makes the breakthrough.
The World No.42 misfires on the forehand for 15-30 in a flashback to the first set and when Demon gets a sight of a first break point of the set, he darts to his right to pull off supreme angle on a crosscourt forehand and seize control!

DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 3-2 MICHELSEN
It feels like the calm before the storm five games into this set.
Michelsen levels at two apiece with a routine hold to 15 before Demon nudges back in front, polishing off a game for the loss of one point with a trademark sprint to the net to flick away a crosscourt forehand winner.
The Aussie No.1 will be keen to finish the job in three here, but Michelsen has raised his level significantly and is now a real danger in terms of potentially prolonging this match.

DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 2-1 MICHELSEN
Demon kicks off Set 3 on the front foot with his fourth ace a brace of forehand winners to hold to 30.
Michelsen lets a 30-0 lead slip but recovers to get on the board.
The Aussie No.1 then keeps his nose in front as Ace No.5 provides the platform for a routine game to 15 and we remain on serve early doors.

SET! – DE MINAUR 6-0 7-6 MICHELSEN
Michelsen somehow diverts a body serve deep to Demon’s backhand corner and gets the short ball. He guns a massive forehand to the opposite flank but de Minaur somehow gets out jail with a crosscourt forehand pass on the run.
A timely ace earns the Aussie set point at 6-5 and a deep, probing return lures the error off the island!
The Rod Laver Arena erupts as the No.8 seed seals the breaker 7-5 and is now just one set away from a maiden appearance in the last eight of his home Slam.

TIE-BREAK LATEST: DE MINAUR 3-3 MICHELSEN
There’s nothing between them at the change of ends as Demon executes a smart body serve to level up after Michelsen had unleashed a ton of power to tee up a mid-court backhand winner.

DE MINAUR 6-0 6-6 MICHELSEN
Tie-break time!
Michelsen is left rueing a wild, misfire on the forehand at 15-15 that blasts into the right-hand net post.
De Minaur pulls clear with a 1-2 forehand punch and then takes into the breaker with a delicious crosscourt drop shot.

10:55
DE MINAUR 6-0 5-6 MICHELSEN
There’s a roar of delight from Michelsen as he boxes off a hold to 30.
The 20-year-old is suddenly locked-in and now it’s de Minaur missing rallying balls he was unleashing away in his sleep in the opener.
It sees the American works his way into the minimum of a breaker with one last chance to try to pull off the steal with another break at the death…

BREAK! – DE MINAUR 6-0 5-5 MICHELSEN
The Aussie No.1 blinks badly from 30-0 up and blows his chance to serve his way into a two-set lead.
Michelsen offered the serve-out poser with another hold to 30 and then upped the ante at 30-30, luring a forehand wide from the No.8 seed.
The inner nerves were clearly jangling as Demon double faults on the BP to hand Michelsen hope of turning this match right around.

10:42
DE MINAUR 6-0 5-3 MICHELSEN
There are definitely signs that the real Alex Michelsen has finally turned up.
These are key moments for Demon now as follows up the American’s third straight hold with a resilient game to 30 from 15-30 down.
The Aussie is one away from a two-set lead.
10:34
10:34
DE MINAUR 6-0 4-2 MICHELSEN
The World No.42 has really impressed with eye-catching wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov so far in this tournament, but he’s not shown anywhere near the quality that saw him down the No.11 and No.19 seed respectively as of yet.
It could be the exertions getting to R4 have taken their toll, but he at least makes a fist of it from 15-40 down to grind out a dogged hold and stay in touch at 2-3.
Indeed, he looks to be finally finding some of his rhythm and a deft volley is followed by a crushing forehand that helps him turn 30-15 into a break point opportunity of his own.
De Minaur is under pressure in the following rally for pretty much the first time, but uses his trademark speed to counter punch his way out of a hole and then scrap through his toughest hold yet to maintain the set and a break advantage.
10:22
10:22
DE MINAUR 6-0 3-1 MICHELSEN
De Minaur punches his 10th winner of the match off the backhand wing to follow two more gifts off his opponent and easily maintains his advantage with a hold to 15.
The American is up to 24 unforced errors with just five winners to his name and that pretty much sums up his night (Australian time) so far.

DE MINAUR 6-0 2-1 MICHELSEN
On. The. Board.
It’s taken 41 minutes for Alex Michelsen to turn up in this match, but he’s finally made an impact here.
De Minaur actually had a chance to make it nine games in a row, but he shanked a forehand on break point, allowing Michelsen to finally hold his serve with the help of his first ace of the day.
