Former Grand Slam champion Caroline Wozniacki pulls out of upcoming Australian Open, Barbora Krejcikova also withdraws

Caroline Wozniacki has pulled out of the Australian Open, with the Dane’s name crossed out on the official entry list. The 34-year-old has yet to reveal the reason for her decision not to play in Melbourne, which was the scene of her only Grand Slam triumph back in 2018. Wozniacki has not played since appearing in New York last season after enduring a difficult 2024.

Former Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki will not grace the courts of Melbourne Park this year, with her name now crossed out on the official entry list.
Wozniacki has not played since last year’s US Open, where she lost in the fourth round to Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The Dane said at the time that the US Open would likely be her last tournament of the year, so it was no surprise when she did not appear on any entry lists in the autumn as she continues to manage her schedule carefully.
But Melbourne holds a special place in Wozniacki’s heart, given it was the scene of her only slam triumph to date - back in 2018 when she beat Simona Halep in three sets.
It was also the location where she chose to play her final match on tour when she retired back in 2020, before making her surprise comeback midway through 2023.
Since making her return to the tennis tour, Wozniacki has made it to the fourth round of the US Open twice, losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff in 2023 and Haddad Maia last year.
She made a couple of tour quarter-finals last season too, while her only appearance in Melbourne since her return resulted in a second round loss last year to Maria Timofeeva.
Wozniacki appeared fully fit when she was last on court in New York last season but no reason has yet been given for her decision not to feature at the Australian Open.
Ranked 70 in the world, Wozniadcki was not relying on a wildcard this year for direct entry to the Australian Open.
Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has also withdrawn, along with two-time slam finalist and former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.
Wozniacki’s absence leaves four former champions in this year’s draw - Aryna Sabalenka, Sofia Kenin, Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka.
