Seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko sees off Francesca Schiavone

Seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko made light work of her first-round match at the Australian Open, defeating veteran Francesca Schiavone 6-1 6-4.

The 2017 French Open champion, still just 20, roared to the first set against her opponent, 17 years her senior.

Ostapenko ran into some resistance in the second set and found herself 4-1 down against the Italian on Rod Laver Arena.

But the seventh seed rattled off five games in a row to ease into the second round.
