Garbine Muguruza sailed into the Australian Open second round with a 6-4 6-3 win over France’s Jessika Ponchet.

The two-time Grand Slam champion lost her opening service game, but steadied to come through in 86 minutes.

She will next meet Su-Wei Hsieh.
Muguruza reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne last year – her best result at the event to date.
