Jo-Wilfried Tsonga topples Kevin King to reach second round

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga enjoyed a comfortable 6-4 6-4 6-1 win over American Kevin King to reach the second round of the Australian Open.

The 15th seed Tsonga - who completed his progress in two hours and one minute - will face a much tougher task in the last 64 on Wednesday when he faces Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov who impressed in a straight sets victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in Melbourne.

Tsonga hit 43 winners compared to 23 from King. Tsonga won four titles last season in Antwerp, Lyon, Marseille and Rotterdam, but has yet to lift a Grand Slam.
