The 11-time Grand Slam winner also sees the young Scot as someone who could emerge as Roger Federer's main rival on tour next season.
"It will be interesting to follow Murray after he beat Federer this year," Borg told the BBC after picking up a lifetime achievement award from the channel.
"Murray has done brilliantly, he has the motivation so I think it might be a few years before he is dethroned."
Borg also backed Murray to spark an interest in British tennis that could see the country produce more potential champions in the near future.
"It is very important Britain has Murray, I think a lot of young players will take inspiration from what he has achieved, Britain will produce many more Andy Murrays"
However, despite heaping praise on Murray, the Swedish legend said that he still believes Federer will be the top dog for a view more years to come.
"As long as Roger is motivated, then I think it might be a few years before he is dethroned.
"Federer is playing unbelievable tennis and appears to have no weaknesses."
