Jannik Sinner breezes past Lorenzo Musetti with ease to seal place in the final four in Monte Carlo

Jannik Sinner is into the semi-finals of Monte Carlo for the first time in his career after a comfortable straight sets win over Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti was unable to replicate the form he showed to overcome world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the previous round while Sinner was clinical from the baseline, particularly when returning Musetti's serve. Sinner will play Holger Rune in the last four.

Jannik Sinner is through to the semi-finals in Monte Carlo with a 6-2 6-2 win over compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in one hour and 15 minutes.
In just their second meeting on the ATP tour, Sinner has made it 2-0 in their head-to-head record with a convincing win over the 21-year-old who stunned world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the last-16.
Sinner, who this year has reached the semi-final stage at Indian Wells, Miami and now Monte Carlo, will play No. 6 seed Holger Rune as the Dane beat Daniil Medvedev in straight sets earlier in the day.
"It was not easy playing against him," Sinner said after the match.
"I know his ability, especially on this surface, so I knew I'd have to step up and try to take my chances. For sure breaking him early gave me a lot of confidence and obviously I'm very happy about the performance.
"Sometimes you see the score but it doesn't seem like that. I felt great today on the court. I felt like I was hitting the ball in the right spots and in the right moments. I tried to stay aggressive which I've done and that's the positive thing.
"Obviously tomorrow is going to be a very tough challenge [against Holger Rune]. Two young players, both of us are very aggressive. We try to do our thing on the court and have a different kind of attitude.
"I'm happy that I have a chance again to play against him. It's going to hopefully be a very exciting match and lets see what is coming."
Sinner got off to an excellent start against Musetti, breaking the 21-year-old's serve to love before quickly following up with a double break to lead 3-0 after just 14 minutes.
Musetti got his first game after 29 minutes of action to make it 4-1, but Sinner was getting plenty of joy off his forehand and had little trouble seeing out the 41-minute set, clinching it with a love hold of serve.
Sinner had to save two break points to make it 1-1 in the second set before going a break up by winning seven points in a row.
Musetti tried his best to remain within touching distance, but Sinner simply overpowered his opponent from the baseline.
A backhand passing shot from Sinner secured him the double break to take a 5-2 lead and he wrapped up the match with an unreturnable serve.
