Cameron Norrie beat Corentin Moutet in straight sets to reach the Moselle Open final in Metz, admitting after the match that he has endured a "difficult year".
Norrie, who is finishing an injury-hit season in strong form, beat the Frenchman 6-2 7-6 (7).
Norrie's trademark resilience, which saw him return from a forearm injury in July, was already on display in the quarter-finals as he beat Zizou Bergs in three sets.
Against Moutet, the Brit survived a tense tie-break in the second set to reach the final where he will play against either American Alex Michelsen or France's Benjamin Bonzi.
Norrie was complimentary of Moutet after the win, having last played and lost to him at the Paris Masters in 2022.
"He's honestly one of my favourite players to watch," Norrie said.
"The way he moves is incredible, and his hands are another level. I knew it was going to be tough. I played him before last year in Paris, and the crowd was tough.
"You guys were tough today as well, but thank you everyone for making it a great atmosphere, and there were a few people cheering for me, so thank you to you guys."
The 29-year-old is coming to the end of a troubled campaign during which injuries have denied him the chance to play at several tournaments.
He played through the pain barrier with a wrist problem at the Australian Open in January, and a separate arm injury ruled him out of the US Open in the summer.
He was also forced to give up his hopes of competing at the Paris Olympics.
While still ranked second in Britain behind Jack Draper, Norrie has slid down to No. 57 in the ATP rankings. But the final in Metz Open offers a precious chance to climb back up the standings.

"It's been a difficult year for me, and I was never able to gain any momentum, so it's nice to finish the last week of the year playing for a final," he said. "I was just back to competing every point and it's nice to get my first indoor final as well.
"Regardless of who I play, it's going to be difficult, but I'm going to enjoy the win today, and it's a really good win for me against a top player. So I'm really happy."
Facing off in the second semi-final are Michelsen and Bonzi. The latter toppled world No. 7 Casper Ruud in the second round for the biggest win of his career.
He has yet to drop a set in the tournament and will hope for another upset against eighth seed Michelsen.
