Jannik Sinner admits he has plenty of work to do to get in top shape for the US Open following his quarter-final exit in Montreal.
World No. 1 Sinner was beaten in three sets in a rain-interrupted clash by Andrey Rublev at the Canadian Open.
Sinner seemed to struggle with a right hip injury throughout the match and appeared fatigued during the deciding set.
The Italian was making his return in Montreal after missing the Olympic Games due to tonsillitis.
“It's all okay,” he said when asked whether he had any physical issues. “You know, I think these kind of things are a bit more mentally than the physical for sure.
“Even if I know that my body is not as strained as I would like to because of last week, but it was also mentally for sure.
“Yeah, let's hope to get back in shape. Obviously now making miracles in the next five days, it's not possible, but being ready for Cincinnati and 100% I don't think is possible.
“But then for US Open for sure I want to be back, which is also the main event for the US swing, last Grand Slam of the year. So I'm aiming for that.”
The US Open starts on August 26 and Sinner will be looking to improve on his best result there, making the quarter-finals two years ago.
Reflecting on his overall showing in Montreal, he added: “For me coming here and making this result, even if it's like this, it's a good result because in the position where I have been in was and is not easy.
“So, you know, you have to accept it. Let's see what's coming now in the next tournaments.”
