Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios are out of the men's doubles at the Brisbane International after suffering a 6-2 3-6 10-8 defeat against top seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus.
The Australian star and the 24-time Grand Slam winner reached the round of 16 with a hard-fought victory over Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies.
Kyrgios will play no further part at the tournament having fallen to defeat against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the men's singles on Sunday, in what was his first match in 18 months.
To make matters worse, Kyrgios has cast doubt over his fitness, suggesting that he may not be fit for the 2025 Australian Open.
"After today I'm super excited for the Australian Open," Kyrgios told BBC Sport after the defeat against Mpetshi Perricard on Sunday.
"If I'm able to play, I'm able to play. But the reality kind of set in for me. That's a best-of-three match with my wrist.
"If I'm able to [play], not only is a Grand Slam mentally really draining, it's physically a grind. I think I almost need a miracle, and I need, like, the stars to align for my wrist to hold up in a Grand Slam for sure."

Mektic said the win over the superstar pairing marked a fantastic start to the year.
"Incredible," added Mektic. "I was very happy when I saw them [Djokovic and Kyrgios], I could play them on January 1.
"It's an amazing feeling to start the year like this, and we knew there would be points like [the comeback in a tie-break] against players like this."
