Jannik Sinner had to go up a gear to defeat Alex de Minaur and reach the final of the China Open. The Italian won the opening set, but he appeared to be on the back foot after losing the second. However, he held his nerve to take the third and maintain his perfect record against the Australian on the ATP Tour. He will now face Learner Tien in the final.

Jannik Sinner admits he had to raise his level to defeat Alex de Minaur and book his place in the final of the China Open.
The world No. 2 set up a mouth-watering meeting with the USA’s Learner Tien in the climax of the tournament by defeating his Australian rival 6-3 4-6 6-2.
The victory was Sinner’s 11th consecutive triumph over De Minaur since their first clash on the ATP Tour in 2019.
Sinner believes that the world No. 8 brought something different to his performance this time around.
"I felt like the level was very high," said the Italian star. "Many great rallies, many great chances for both.
"I had my chances in the second set and couldn’t use them but he had his chances and it was quite an even match.
"In the third set I tried to raise my level. I broke him very early, which gave me confidence to then serve better.
"I am very happy about today. It was a different match than usual against him, it was a very even match.
"I tried to stay concentrated and not lose mental energy. It was a very difficult match today, so I am very happy."
The four-time Grand Slam champion is competing at his first tournament since his 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 US Open final in early September.

Despite that defeat, Sinner has enjoyed a successful 2025 season, reaching the final of all four Grand Slams and storming to victory at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Â
This is the third consecutive year that the 24-year-old has reached the final of the China Open.
He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final in 2023, but fell to defeat against Alcaraz 12 months ago.
He will face Tien this time around after Medvedev withdrew from the other semi-final while losing 5-7 7-5 4-0.
