World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka survived a huge scare as she battled back to beat No. 104 Laura Siegemund and reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Siegemund, 37, frustrated Sabalenka for much a gripping contest, which lasted two hours and 54 minutes.
The veteran won the first set and twice led by a break in the decider, but she couldn't find a way to close out a famous victory as Sabalenka prevailed 4-6 6-2 6-4.
"She pushed me so much and, honestly, after the first set, I was just like looking at my box thinking: 'Guys, book the tickets, I think we're we're about to leave this beautiful city and country.'" admitted Sabalenka.
"She played an incredible tournament and an incredible match. I'm just super happy right now with the win."
Sabalenka will play 13th seed Amanada Anisimova in the last four.
On Siegemund, Sabalenka said: "She's really making everyone work against her and going into the match against her, you know that you have to work for every point.
"It doesn't matter if you're a big server or a big hitter, you have to work, you have to run, and you have to earn the win.
"I was just trying to focus on myself and make sure I didn't give her that energy. I didn't want her to see that I was annoyed or anything by her, even if I was a little bit at some points."
Sabalenka has now made the semi-finals for the third time at Wimbledon, but so far has yet to progress further.
She was in trouble early on against Siegemund as the German made a fast start with seven winners and two breaks of serve in the first three games.
Sabalenka responded with a break to love, but Siegemund continued to mix up her shots and frustrate the world No. 1, who was broken for a third time to fall 5-2 behind.
