Ana Ivanovic eliminates Heather Watson from Luxembourg Open first round

British number one Heather Watson fell at the first hurdle in Luxembourg in a 6-4 6-3 defeat to Ana Ivanovic.

Ivanovic, who won the Luxembourg title back in 2007, broke early only for Watson to return the favour immediately.

The breaks in serve continued, however, as Ivanovic found a way in once again which turned out to be enough to clinch the opening set.

Watson did well to prevent a couple of break points in set two and turned what could have been a crushing conclusion to the contest into 5-3 to the Serbian.

But at 40-0 in game nine, Watson collapsed with three double-faults which put Ivanovic into round two.

Third seed Sara Errani, meanwhile, dropped the opening set before going on to beat Julie Coin 5-7 6-4 6-1.
