LM P1:
It's the cars such as Audi R8, Pescarolo-Judd, Dome, etc...
All the cars which were (in the past years) in LM P900 and LM GTP class.
These cars still weigh 900 kg.
Length maxi: 465 cm / Width maxi: 200 cm / Height: 103 cm.
Displacement: 6000 cm3 for atmospheric engine / 4000 cm3 for turbo engine. But for 2OO4, they have now a smaller rear wing (now it's 180 cm large maximum). The strap at the exit of the fuel tank is now 31 mm (33 mm in the past). These cars will still be allowed to race in 2005, but will have to be changed for 2006 in order to respect the new aerodynamic regulation.
This year, cars which were so far in LM P675 class are now in LM P1 class.
These cars weight 675 kg, but are not as powerful as ex-LM P900. As a result, these 2 types of cars, can fight together nearly at the same level.
Only the ex-LM P675 with carbon chassis are part of LM-P1 (exemple: Zytek, Lola #27, Lola-MG, Reynard-Lehman)
LM P2:
This class concerns the ex-LM P675 with an aluminium chassis (only the #32 Lola-Judd is concerned). It concerns also all the new cars applying the new LM P2 regulation.
This concerns the Courage-C65 which have been modified since last year on an aerodynamical point of view. This LM P2 class has been created in order to be a "customer" class, for competitors who don't have the money to run with "big" LM P1 prototypes.
Length, width and height specifications are the same as LMP1.
LMP2 Weight mini: 750 kg
Displacement: 3400 cm3 for atmospheric engines (8 cylinders maxi) / 2000 cm3 for turbo engines (6 cylinders maxi)
LM GTS:
These cars respect the regulations of what is called "GT" in FIA-GT championship. The only differences concern the size of the rear wing (smaller in Le Mans) and the possibility to use carbon brakes.
Weight mini: 1100 kg / width maxi: 200 cm
Engine: 8000 cm3 max for atmospheric engines / 4000 cm3 for turbo.
New regulation for 2004: rear wing size, and front splitter have been modified in order to reduce performance.
This LM GTS class concerns: Corvette, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Ferrari 575 Maranello.
LM GT:
These cars are what we call "N-GT" in FIA-GT championship. It concerns especially Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari 360 Modena, TVR Tuscan and Morgan Aero 8.
It is the slowest class in Le Mans on dry conditions.
Weight mini: 1100 kg / Width maxi: 200 cm
Same engines restrictions as LMGTS
Brakes carbon prohibited
