'Sensational ride' - Bewley goes from fourth to first to make final

Dan Bewley charged to victory in Round 4 of the Speedway season in Manchester, climbing to the top step of the podium in front of his home crowd.
Bewley battled into the final before defeating reigning Speedway GP champion Bartosz Zmarzlik and hard charger Brady Kurtz in an intense final.
There was drama from start to finish, with Vaculik, Zmarzlik and Michelsen starting the evening strong in the opening heats of the night.
Bewley was down in P10 after the first round of heats with plenty of work to do.
Drama would continue to be served as Kurtz came onto the sign, leading the standings after the second round of heats, locked at the front with Mikkel Michelsen, Fredrik Lindgren and Max Fricke.
One of the stars of the night arrived in Heat 9 as wild card Charles Wright stormed to victory, sending the Manchester crowd wild once more. Meanwhile, Kurtz would continue to get to work as he remained tied with Fricke at the top of the leaderboard.

'Spectacular' Bewley beats Zmarzlik to Manchester victory

There would be plenty of close calls during the evening, with Robert Lambert, Wright, and Jason Doyle all receiving warnings throughout the evening, which they carried with them until the end of the night.
Fricke’s night was later turned upside down after a sensational final heat from Zmarzlik and Kurtz. This forced Fricke to fight in the LCQ races, as Zmarzlik and Kurtz were automatically promoted to the final.
Lindgren and Bewley would win their respective heats before an incredible final, leading to a home victory.
After Round 4 of the season, Zmarzlik continues to lead the world championship on 73 points. Brady Kurtz remains nine points behind, while Bewley, Holder and Lindgren all stand on 54 points as tension builds.

"I was thinking if I don’t go well tonight, then they (the crowd) might turn tomorrow!
"The people tonight have been behind me and since my very first meeting in 2016, I have raced here and how times have changed. Some things have changed, and some things are the same; it is just so cool.
"100%, I have had a few years which weren’t brilliant but the fans have always been behind me and its pretty surreal.
"Shout-out to everyone who has always been behind me, shout out to my dad, all my mates, and everyone, especially to my dad who keeps me hard at work."
ZMARZLIK: 'I’M HAPPY'
"I’m happy because I am in second place in Manchester, and I have good memories from here.
"Tonight, it’s really nice for my team and I am happy because I’m feeling good, and I think everyone made some good racing for everyone who came!"
KURTZ: 'PRAGUE WAS SUPER TOUGH'
"Prague was super tough; it was definitely a little bit of an eye opener.
"It definitely isn’t all easy, but I had a good two weeks off to make sure I was ready for these two big days, and I’m glad I was!"
FINAL – ZMARZLIK, BEWLEY, LINDGREN, KURTZ
TAPES UP! Bewley made a sensational start as the crowd roared around the stadium.
Kurtz was pushing hard at the start as Bewley went head-to-head with reigning champion Zmarzlik, who was aiming for a further victory this season.
It was a tense end to the final, with the top four remaining locked together as the crowd roared around the stadium.
Dan Bewley charged to glory! Winning his home Grand Prix to the delight of the Manchester crowd, #99 took victory by 0.209s over Bartosz Zmarzlik as Brady Kurtz claimed third and Fredrik Lindgren took the final spot in fourth. It was home glory for Bewley on a night which he will never forget!
FINAL GATE SELECTION
Zmarzlik picked the inside gate straight away, with Kurtz opting for the outside yellow gate. Meanwhile, Bewley took the second gate in blue, leaving Lindgren in gate three, starting with the white helmet!

LCQ 2 – BEWLEY, HOLDER, KVECH, MICHELSEN
It was the final time for the riders to fight for their spot in the final, with Holder becoming the Firestarter after a perfect launch. Michelsen slid into second position as Kvech dropped back to the final spot. Bewley battled into second, looking for his chance to battle with Holder on the final lap.
Bewley launched his attack on the final lap, sending the crowd to their feet after a stunning ride. The British star would earn his spot in the final this evening after beating Holder by a mere 0.466s as Michelsen took third, unable to earn his place in the final.

Tapes were up, and Lindgren roared into the lead, aiming to earn his spot in the final this evening. Lambert put down the hammer, charging into second in an intense fight with Vaculik. Fricke remained in fourth, unable to match the pace of the leaders, trapped in fourth place.
In the end, Lindgren fought hard, beating Lambert and Vaculik to earn his spot in the all-important final this evening. Fricke finished in fourth after he struggled following his decision to start on the outside gate.

HEAT 20 – ZMARZLIK, FRICKE, MICHELSEN, HUCKENBECK
It was finally time for the final heat of the evening… Heat 20 has arrived! It was a crucial heat with all eyes on Zmarzlik. The reigning champion would launch into the lead on the opening lap, pushing to the limit with maximum pressure applied from behind. Huckenbeck looked for an opportunity as he continued to defend from Fricke behind, who eyed further points in P3.
In the Zmarzlik took victory, leaping to 12 points in total after securing a further three in Heat 20. Huckenbeck crossed the line in second as Fricke could only claim third, which would be crucial to the remainder of his evening as he is forced to battle in the LCQ race.
HEAT 19 – LINDGREN, KURTZ, DOYLE, WRIGHT
Another dramatic heat was in store as Kurtz took the Firestarter, with Lindegren and Wright in chase. Everything was to play for before Doyle tried to get into the mix, aiming for further points tonight. Lindgren was determined for the win, trying multiple lines as Kurtz stamped his authority.
The Australian would claim victory, with Kurtz winning ahead of Lindgren as Wright took one more point to his tally.
HEAT 18 – HOLDER, VACULIK, LEBEDEVS, THOMSEN
Vaculik charged to the front early on, leaving Holder and Thomsen to battle behind. However, Holder made ground late in the heat, looking down the inside on the third lap, taking the lead with just one circuit remaining, sending the crowd to their feet.
At the flag, Holder charged to glory, taking three crucial points ahead of Vaculik and Thomsen as Lebedevs finished in fourth, continuing to struggle in Manchester with just one point to his name.
HEAT 17 – KUBERA, LAMBERT, KVECH, BEWLEY
It’s time to go racing once more! Kubera made a great start, only to be overshadowed by Lambert and Bewley, who were charging hard behind. Bewley took the advantage as the two Brits went head-to-head at their home round. Bewley held the advantage with a hot pace at the front as Kvech chased hard behind.
Bewley would delight the home crowd with compatriot Lambert securing second as Kubera secured third after starting from the inside gate.
AS IT STANDS: AFTER HEAT 16
Max Fricke looks to be in control, with Zmarzlik and Kurtz tied for the all-important second position as track grading continues ahead of Heat 17!

It was a great start from Holder before Kvech put down the hammer, launching into second and putting Holder under pressure. Wright was on their tail too, with Huckenbeck watching the battle unfold from P4. The top riders stayed in position, with Wright unable to make a move work.
Jack Holder took victory and a further three points ahead of Kvech in second position. Wild card Wright was unable to take another win as he took the final point of the heat in third position.
HEAT 15 – THOMSEN, LINDGREN, BEWLEY, ZMARZLIK
It was drama from the start, with Thomsen becoming the Firestarter before Zmarzlik showed his world champion skills once more, leaping into the lead. Lindgren would later respond on the third lap, briefly taking the lead before everything was decided on an incredible final lap in Manchester.
Over the line, Zmarzlik became the winner once more after a hard-fought race. Bewley pipped Lindgren for second as Thomsen was left to finish in fourth position, with no points scored once more.
HEAT 14 – VACULIK, DOYLE, LAMBERT, MICHELSEN
Vaculik hit the front in the opening stages before Lambert and Doyle went head-to-head on the opening lap. Doyle would get through before Michelsen forced a move into third, dropping the #505 of Lambert back down to the back of the pack with work to do!
Vaculik converted his strong start into victory, finishing ahead of Doyle as Michelsen took the flag ahead of Lambert, leaving the local hero without any points in Heat 14. Doyle would receive a warning in this race, which he will carry for the rest of the night.
HEAT 13 – LEBEDEVS, KURTZ, FRICKE, KUBERA
Kubera made a sensational launch, becoming the Firestarter of Heat 13! Fricke was on the attack early on, looking for a chunk in the #415’s armour. Kurtz would go backwards, with Lebedevs taking advantage and forcing a move into third.
It was a dramatic final lap, with Fricke launching a stunning move, stealing victory from Kubera as Kurtz held off Lebedevs further back in yet another thrilling race!

The tapes were up once more for heat 12 as Doyle took an early lead before there was a three-way fight for victory. The leaders kept locked together, with Bewley having his turn at the front, aiming to take maximum points at home. Huckenbeck worked hard too, charging into second place late on.
Bewley took the win, bringing the crowd to their feet after beating Huckenbeck and Doyle as Lebedevs took the final finishing position in fourth, scoring no points this time.
HEAT 11 – LAMBERT, HOLDER, LINDGREN, FRICKE
Action was underway, with Holder and Lambert going head-to-head straight away at the opening corner. However, it was soon Fricke taking the advantage, charging from the outside after starting from the fourth gate. Nothing could stop the #46, leaving Lambert and Lindgren to battle for the final position.
At the line, Fricke held onto the victory, continuing his charge as a fan favourite tonight. Holder took second place before Lambert was able to fend off Lindgren after an unforgettable final lap.
HEAT 10 – KURTZ, ZMARZLIK, KVECH, VACULIK
Heat 10 sparked into life with a great start from Kurtz from the inside gate; however, Vaculik was on the attack, launching his move from outside. It was a stunning battle, with three riders duelling for victory as Zmarzlik got stuck in after a poor start, charging into second position and setting up a stunning final lap.
In the end, Brady Kurtz was victorious, clinching victory ahead of Zmarzlik and Vaculik as Kvech took P4.
HEAT 9 – WRIGHT, THOMSEN, KUBERA, MICHELSEN
The tapes were up once more for a thrilling start, with Wright securing a great start, fighting from the start of the heat. Wright held the advantage, with Michelsen and Kubera in chase in the closing stages. Kubera sat in fourth, trying to close his gap to Thomsen in the final point scoring position.
It was a magical moment for the wild card rider, with Charles Wright storming to his first win of the night, beating Michelsen and Thomsen over the line!

The news before the heat was that Thomsen had already switched machines to his B bike. However, once track action resumed, it was Huckenbeck who hit the front initially before Kurtz pulled off an incredible move to steal the lead. The #101 stormed into the distance as Thomsen took second, with Lambert on his tail.
Over the line, Kurtz took victory with a 1:01.954 as Lambert pipped Thomsen after a sensational battle on the final lap, leaving Thomsen with no points in the eighth heat.
HEAT 7 – MICHELSEN, KVECH, LEBEDEVS, LINDGREN
It was all action at the start, with Lindgren storming into the lead after a phenomenal move around the outside. Michelsen was demoted to second, trying to find time to catch the new leader to head 7. Lebedevs struggled at the start, dropping to back and unable to find any significant amount of time.
At the line, Lindgren charged to glory, with Michelsen keeping him honest until the end – crossing the line in P2. Kvech took third position after starting from the second gate, as Lebedevs finished last, scoring no points this time around.
HEAT 6 – FRICKE, BEWLEY, VACULIK, WRIGHT
The tapes were up, and Fricke had a clear run at the opening turn, slamming the door shut and securing P1. However, the fight was on with Bewley working hard, searching for a way through with Vaculik in chase. There was a mistake from Fricke, who was somehow able to hold the advantage.
It was a dramatic run to the line, with nothing separating the top two. Frick kept the win, leaving Bewley and Vaculik to claim the final points, and Wright took P4.
HEAT 5 – DOYLE, KUBERA, ZMARZLIK, HOLDER
It was a great start once more from the inside gate, with Doyle claiming a sensational launch. However, everything soon changed as Holder took advantage, snatching P1 before Kubera and Zmarzlik found their way through. Holder extended his margin, leaving all eyes on the battle for second.
Over the line, Holder took the win in heat five as Kubera held off reigning champion Zmarzlik, who was forced to settle for third. Doyle finished in fourth, unable to convert his strong start into victory!

HEAT 4 – KVECH, FRICKE, THOMSEN, DOYLE
For the first time, it was the inside gate with the fastest start, with Kvech stealing the lead on the opening lap. There were some inventive moves in the closing stages as Doyle took third, setting his sights on Fricke, the winner of the Sprint earlier on this afternoon.
Over the line, Kvech held onto the win with a time of 1:02.292 ahead of Fricke and Doyle as Thomsen took the final finishing position – missing out on points in his opening heat.
HEAT 3 – BEWLEY, MICHELSEN, KURTZ, HOLDER
It was a great start for Michelsen, making a great start from the second gate before Kurtz was on the attack, making ground and chasing the lead. Bewley dropped back to third, with Holder remaining in the final position.
Over the line, Michelsen took the win ahead of Kurtz and Bewley, with no real position changes in the closing stages.
HEAT 2 – ZMARZLIK, LEBEDEVS, WRIGHT, LAMBERT
Lebedevs took the advantage at the start before Zmarzlik showed his class once more, stealing P1. Lambert was then on the move, securing second position on the third lap. Meanwhile, wild card Wright will take his opening heat of the night as a chance to learn for later on.
Zmarzlik took the maximum points available, securing P1 ahead of Lambert and Lebedevs, who, after a good start from the second gate, took third. Both Lambert and Wright would receive warnings that they will carry for the rest of the night
HEAT 1 – KUBERA, VACULIK, LINDGREN, HUCKENBECK
The tapes were up for the first time this evening, with Vaculik becoming the first Firestarter of the night! The second gate proved to give a great start once more, with Lindgren soon charging into second, dropping gate one starter Kubera to the back. Kai Huckenbeck tried to apply pressure on the final lap, with no way through.
Vaculik took the opening three points of the evening, with Lindgren and Huckenbeck rounding out the top three. Meanwhile, Kubera will go back to the drawing board later in the evening.

The riders have now been introduced to a packed crowd, and now, after a rendition of the national anthem, engines will be fired into life in the pits! Dominik Kubera, Martin Vaculik, Fredrik Lindgren, and Kai Huckenbeck will be first on track tonight!

THE VENUE
It’s a historic occasion as the National Speedway Stadium prepares to host its biggest event yet – with Manchester staging the Speedway GP of Great Britain for the very first time. The stadium has previously hosted other big events, most notably the 2016 Speedway World Cup Final and the 2021 Speedway of Nations Final.

Tai Woffinden is also in attendance tonight, watching the event trackside as he continues to recover. Tai gave the latest update regarding his current condition:
"A lot of rehab, four or five hours a day, Monday to Friday, and I get the weekend off.
"I was in the gym this morning and yesterday, and I was planning on staying in the UK longer and focus on the gym work rather than the rehab.
"I’ve got another scan at the end of the month, which will determine if I need a second operation on my arm, my right humerus. Fingers crossed I don’t, but if I do, then I do, and we will just deal with it."

There will be not two but three riders representing Great Britain tonight as Charles Wright joins the field as a wild card! Chris Harris and Adam Ellis are also in attendance tonight as they act as first and second track reserves.
