Jordan Pierre-Gilles seizes opportunity to claim Short Track Speeding Skating World Cup success in Beijing

Jordan Pierre-Gilles short track speed skater took an unlikely 500m victory. The Canadian took advantage of a crash between home pair Lin Xiaojun and Liu Shaoang to take the win in the 500m (1) ahead of France's Quentin Fercoq, with Jens van 't Wout taking bronze for the Netherlands. There was similar drama in the 1500m, with Korea's Kim Gun Woo producing a stunning final lap.

Jordan Pierre-Gilles clinched a second ISU Short Track Speeding Skating World Cup win of the season in dramatic circumstances on the first day of action in Beijing.
The Canadian took advantage of a crash between home pair Lin Xiaojun and Liu Shaoang to take the win in the 500m (1) ahead of France's Quentin Fercoq, with Jens van 't Wout taking bronze for the Netherlands.
There was similar drama in the 1500m, with Korea's Kim Gun Woo producing a stunning final lap to overtake home favourite Li Wenlong as Canada's William Dandjinou joined them on the podium.
Kim was not the only Korean success story on day one, compatriot Kim Gilli took the first victory of the day as she cruised home in the women's 1500m, with China's Gong Li and Netherlands' Xandra Velzeboer taking second and third respectively.
America's Kristen Santos-Griswold matches Pierre-Gilles with her second World Cup win of the season, getting the better of Chinese pair Fan Kexin and Wang Ye to take women's 500m success.
Last but not least, the Netherlands scraped home in the mixed team relay, Teun Boer and Selma Poutsma joining Van 't Wout and Velzeboer in the four person team that beat the host nation by just 0.023 seconds, with the USA in third.
