Ronnie O'Sullivan marked his 1,000th career match in a ranking event with a 5-0 whitewash win over a struggling Iulian Boiko at the Xi'an Grand Prix on Tuesday.
Playing his first match since losing 10-9 to Neil Robertson in an epic Saudi Arabia Masters final in August, O'Sullivan cut a composed figure as breaks of 107 in the first frame and 112 in the fourth helped him coast through against an error-strewn 20-year-old opponent.
He will chase a last-32 spot when he takes on world No. 118 Yao Pengcheng in the second round on Wednesday at 12:30pm, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
World No. 1 Judd Trump had earlier fired the ninth 147 of his career as he swept to a 5-2 victory over three-time women's world champion Ng On Yee.
The Hong Kong player made the first move of the contest with an excellent break of 74.
But Trump responded with a century and a run of 94 helping him to ease into a 3-1 lead at the interval.
The 2019 Crucible winner then had the crowd on their feet as he chalked up a superb maximum to move within one frame of victory.
It was a feat later repeated by Aaron Hill, who celebrated his second maximum of the campaign in the second frame of his match with Huang Jiahao.
On Yee held her nerve to pull off a steal to reduce the arrears after some sloppy errors from Trump, but he completed victory with separate runs of 55 and 44.
Elsewhere, Neil Robertson defeated Leone Crowley 5-1 while reigning world champion Zhao Xintong beat his compatriot Wang Xinbo 5-2. Mark Williams claimed a 5-2 victory over Zhou Jinhao.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (76-49)

Boiko fails to escape from a tough snooker and leaves yellow for Ronnie. Which he puts away before despatching green, brown and blue. In goes the pink and it is a 5-0 whitewash win for O'Sullivan.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (52-49)

Lovely shot on the final red by Ronnie to nudge it into play from blue, but he can't sink the red. And Boiko drops in the red before missing blue down table. Onto the colours.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (46-48)

But he misses the red on 46 when it looked a done deal. Didn't expect that to stay out. Boiko still in the hunt out there, but he misses another red with hand on table. O'Sullivan then sees white go in off after being left with tough bridging over a red using the spider.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (46-36)

Has been a cue ball clinic from Ronnie at close range today in spells. Doesn't look like missing when he gets the white ball moving.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (8-36)

Lovely red by Ronnie to the green pocket. That was to a bind pocket down the table. Made that look exceptionally easy. Chance then to piece together a telling break here.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (0-36)

Moving along nicely in this fifth frame, but we've been here before today. Easier said than done to put balls away. Out of ideal position on 36, and the black off spot eludes him. "Again, a disappointing end," says Alan McManus on comms.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (0-12)

Cracking yellow to right middle by Boiko after sinking early red. Decent chance to get his cue arm working out there.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (0-0)

Winner of this match will meet Yao Pengcheng in the last 64 on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30pm BST.

O'SULLIVAN 4-0 BOIKO (0-0)

One more frame for Ronnie and it will be a job well done for the seven-time world champion.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (123-5)

112 from Ronnie is just the job for the fans, and he carries a 4-0 lead to the mid-session.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (84-5)

Could be a second century on the cards too from the snooker GOAT in the first four frames. All going his way in Xi'an.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (53-5)

O'Sullivan continues to put away balls with some relish in these situations. "Looks like he is enjoying himself when he is at the table," says former Masters champion Alan McManus on comms.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (26-5)

Another decent opening red by Ronnie. In goes cutback black to follow, and O'Sullivan is back on the horse as we speak. Chance then to make this a clean sweep of four frames before the mid-session break.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (11-5)

Ronnie really unfortunate to see a red stick to white after attacking pack off the blue. A break for his opponent. Just the safety to follow for O'Sullivan.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (5-5)

Bit of a wide from Ronnie for once trying to drop in a long red. Seemed to cue across that one and another chance is presented to Boiko, who has not exactly been starved of opportunity so far today. But latest visit comes to an end on only five as another red doesn't drop.

O'SULLIVAN 3-0 BOIKO (5-0)

Lovely long red by O'Sullivan at the outset of the fourth frame. Is clearly dialled into this match today.

O'SULLIVAN 2-0 BOIKO (74-50)

Another safety error by Boiko, and that looks like good night and good luck for another frame. Blue and pink for a 3-0 lead. In they go, and O'Sullivan is two frames short of the winning line in Xi'an. Ronnie punished the errors Boiko, who has made too many safety mistakes so far.

O'SULLIVAN 2-0 BOIKO (47-50)

A timely knock of 41 from O'Sullivan. Can't release yellow off the low black, but a decent safety to conclude, and this third frame is a live issue now. O'Sullivan turning the screw with a solid snooker, but a good escape by his opponent.

O'SULLIVAN 2-0 BOIKO (33-50)

Opportunity here for Ronnie to launch the counter-offensive. Only yellow is safe on this table. So could be right back in the mix when he reaches colours.

  • Liam Pullen 1-1 Michael Holt
  • Noppon Saengkham 2-0 Michal Szubarczyk
  • Huang Jiahao 1-1 Aaron Hill

O'SULLIVAN 2-0 BOIKO (6-50)

This is suddenly a glorious chance for the Ukraine player to register a first frame of the day as break reaches 49, but he then misses red to left middle on cusp of frame. "It's a bad miss," comments Alan McManus on comms. Ronnie can't punish with long red down table to yellow bag. Life left in this frame though as a safety battle ensues.

O'SULLIVAN 2-0 BOIKO (6-18)

Chance for Boiko early in this third frame. Vital you suspect for his future heath in this match that he starts scoring.

AARON HILL JOINS THE 147 PARTY

The Irish player's second of the season, and second of the day in levelling up against Huang Jiahao at 1-1. 13 in total now for the season, only two shy of the total for last season.

O'SULLIVAN 1-0 BOIKO (81-27)

So there we go then as O'Sullivan drains a long yellow. Boiko now requiring a snooker, but he won't be coming back to the baize as another loose safety sticks up the green and Ronnie sees out the colours for a 2-0 lead.

O'SULLIVAN 1-0 BOIKO (54-27)

Superb shot by Ronnie to splash open two reds on top cushion off the blue, and suddenly frame is within his grasp. 27 clear on the colours, but the safety is a bit loose. Boiko could still force a re-spot.

O'SULLIVAN 1-0 BOIKO (27-27)

Another chance for Ronnie to make some progress in the second frame after sinking an excellent opening red. But no big contribution this time as Boiko returns to float in a red along top cush. Then misses tricky pink to right middle. Bad misses at this level.

O'SULLIVAN 1-0 BOIKO (7-25)

Boiko fortunate to avoid going in off to the left middle and sinking a red. Drops in blue, but next red is far from easy. Safety the option then.

  • Liam Pullen 0-0 Michael Holt
  • Noppon Saengkham 0-0 Michal Szubarczyk
  • Huang Jiahao 1-1 Aaron Hill

O'SULLIVAN 1-0 BOIKO (7-2)

Second frame of a possible nine is underway. Ronnie tries to chip in a long red, but just off potting angle. A miscue from Boiko, but he flukes the red on the double. Snookered in pack though, and misses black before Ronnie fails to clip in red to left middle. Boiko then drops in excellent long red.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (107-0)

And there we have it. 1,301 career centuries now. 107 to the final red from O'Sullivan laying down an early marker upon his return to competition.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (84-0)

Feeling the flow out there. Chance to open up with a century too. Looking very relaxed among the balls.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (62-0)

Races beyond 60 in no time at all. Looks like O'Sullivan is on the board already after that Boiko blunder. This is very, very impressive.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (41-0)

But he opts against a tricky red bridging over another red to hold for black. The focus on winning the frame then for O'Sullivan.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (17-0)

Will he be thinking 147 here? Probably. Wouldn't be Ronnie if not.

O'SULLIVAN 0-0 BOIKO (9-0)

O'Sullivan gets the balls moving with the first frame of the day. First player to five frames will advance to the last 64. Ronnie misses red to left middle early on, but Boiko then can't dribble in a tricky red. O'Sullivan with a second go at these balls. And he tends not to require a second invitation.

READY TO GET BOYS ON BAIZE THEN

Sixth ranking event of the new season, and all eyes are on Rocket Ronnie this avo. Could be quite an exciting battle with 20-year-old Iulian Boiko of Ukraine offering plenty of attacking threats when he is in the mood. Their first meeting on the professional circuit today.

TRUMP CHALKS UP A MAXIMUM IN DOMINANT WIN

Judd Trump fired the ninth 147 of his career as he swept to a 5-2 victory over Ng On-Yee at the 2025 Xi'an Grand Prix.
The three-time women’s world champion made the first move of the contest with an excellent break of 74.
Trump responded with a century and a run of 94 helping him to ease into a 3-1 lead at the interval.
The world number one then had the crowd on their feet as he chalked up a superb maximum to move within one frame of victory.
On-Yee held her nerve to pull off a steal to reduce the arrears after some sloppy errors from Trump, but the 2019 world champion completed victory with separate runs of 55 and 44.
Elsewhere, Neil Robertson defeated Leone Crowley 5-1 while reigning world champion Xintong Zhao beat his compatriot Wang Xinbo 5-2.

AROUND THE TABLES

Zhao 4-2 Xinbo

RESULT! - ROBERTSON 5-1 CROWLEY

Neil Robertson puts together a run of 61 and that’s enough for Leone, who offers his handshake.
The Aussie pulled away after some tough early tussles in the opening frames and ends up cruising into R2.

AROUND THE TABLES

  • Robertson 4-1 Crowley
  • Zhao 3-2 Xinbo

RESULT! - TRUMP 5-2 NG

On-Yee clips in a solitary red and then opts for safety once more as it develops into the first cagey-ish frame of the contest.
Trump ends the impasse with a lovely red up to middle left and then plays lovely position off a blue to the yellow bag to land perfectly on a red to the left corner.
A blue to middle left earns a ripple of applause as the crowd recognise it is match ball.
The world number one completes his lap of honour, earning a few more gasps of delight with a slow-paced long black to the yellow pocket.
A Hollywood pot off two cushions to bring the yellow down to the right corner even has On-Yee smiling.
It’s showboating and it ends there on 44 as he fails to sink the green. It’s immaterial, however, as he completes victory to set up a R2 clash with Matthew Stevens.

TRUMP 4-2 NG (55-4)

Trump is first in and looks very business-like.
He was obviously very disappointed with the make-able misses in that previous frame and he’s keen to get the job done here.
He quickly makes the half century, cannoning into the pack off a pot on the black to the left corner, but another surprise miss on a routine red to the right gives On-Yee a lifeline.
The Chinese sets a trap tight behind the brown and lures a foul out of the world number one before he escapes at the second time of asking with lovely pace and angle to edge into the bottom part of the pack.

AROUND THE TABLES

  • Robertson 3-1 Crowley
  • Zhao 3-2 Xinbo

TRUMP 4-2 NG

Trump can’t hide his irritation as he fails to send a red down to middle right and comes up shy again on 14.
On-Yee steps in and drills a red to the right corner and then splits the remainder of the pack with a follow-through off a sharp pot on the blue to middle left.
Lovely cueing allows the Chinese to roll a red along the bottom deck and get a sweet angle on the black to the opposite bag.
She continues with some lovely rhythm and flow and executes a magnificent final red down the right rail via the rest.
The black off its spot should be routine in contrast, but she makes a mess of it trying to engineer the power off a pot to get up to the yellow in baulk.
The run ends on 29, but she flukes a snooker that Trump twice fails to escape from.
It’s third time lucky for Judd and he almost gets his own fluke as the yellow clips the jaw of its own pocket but stays out.
On-Yee doesn’t miss the long pot with it hovering over the rim and she goes on to finally complete the steal with a 27 clearance.

TRUMP 4-1 NG (35-1)

On-Yee’s latest error opens the door for Trump once more and he duly rolls in a red to the left corner to begin another run.
It’s looking like curtains for On-Yee but Judd can’t quite tease down a tricky black to the right corner via the rest and his break ends prematurely.

TRUMP 4-1 NG (1-1)

It’s a scrappy start to Frame Six.
Trump opens with a solitary red before On-Yee misses a black up to the yellow pocket after getting back on the board with a red to the left corner.

TRUMP 4-1 NG

On-Yee’s supreme start seems like a long time ago now.
The Chinese star misses a long red to the left corner and leaves it on for Trump to the opposite bag.
The world number one duly pots it and follows with a black off its spot.
There are already a number of loose reds, providing him with a real platform to pull away once again.
There’s a brief moment of concern when position on another black isn’t perfect and his screw back off the left cushion almost ends with him begin blocked by the pink.
It isn’t the case and he is able to mop up the stray reds around the black off its spot to pass the 50-mark with the minimum of fuss.
The Juddernaut clips in another black to leave his opponent needing snookers and he rolls a red up to middle right with his mind very much on a potential 147.
It’s all routine as he passes the century mark and then executes right-side spin off a pot on the black to take a tricky final red down the right rail.
The referee intervenes to pop his sponsorship logo back on his top and it’s a brief delay as he comes off the right cushion to land on the yellow to the green pocket.
The air of anticipation in the crowd has been growing and it feels inevitable as he glides it down along with the green.
The brown follows to the yellow pocket and the blue to middle right.
A pink to the left corner leaves him on the black to finish and he sends the crowd wild with the 147 clearance and plenty of fist-pumping!

AROUND THE TABLES

  • Robertson 2-1 Crowley
  • Zhao 2-1 Xinbo
  • Latest: Wakelin 3-4 Hao

TRUMP 3-1 NG

Trump teases a red up near baulk down to middle right and is delighted that he ends on the black to the right corner when position wasn’t necessarily a guarantee.
It provides him with a good opportunity to pull clear again and after a succession of red-black combos he plays off a brown up to the green pocket to maintain strong position and move within sight of the half century.
A green up to its home pocket and the red furthest south of the pack help him to rupture the remaining bunch further and he plays off the yellow to its own bag as he begins to wrestle with position.
The low scoring colours keeps Ng interested, but her hope is in vain as he finally passes the 50-mark by taking a red down the right rail and landing back on the black.
The red-black combos quickly move him beyond his opponent’s reach and his thoughts turn towards a second century, but it all goes pear-shaped on the final red as he clips the jaws of the left corner and ends on 94.

TRUMP 2-1 NG

On-Yee chalks up a quick eight but can’t develop it further.
In fact, it’s Trump who lays the snooker and ends up luring the error to finish this off with a red to the yellow pocket.
The Chinese star has to watch on as the world number one clears up to the brown with a run of 22 as he misses the colour with a tough cut down to middle left.

TRUMP 1-1 NG (69-0)

Trump scorches a long red up to the yellow pocket that earns a few gasps from the crowd.
He plays safe behind the black and although Ng pulls off a decent rescue, she leaves a red along the baulk cushion that Judd slips to the green pocket.
The Juddernaut sets about finishing this frame off one and for all as he makes use of the pink to the left corner and rolls one of the stray reds to middle right. It’s copy and paste on the next shot and it’s the pink that again puts him out of sight.
He misses what looks like a routine red to the middle right and Ng will return to the table 69 behind with 59 left.

TRUMP 1-1 NG (31-0)

On-Yee misses a tricky red up to middle right and leaves Judd with several options, including one to middle left that he duly sinks with ease.
The world number one lands too straight on the black along the bottom rail and decides he’d have no options beyond that so plays safe tight to the colour and briefly returns to his chair.
On-Yee leaves a red on as she tries to play tight to the pack and this time Trump pots it and lands with a shorter distance to the black that allows him to roll it in and come off the lower right deck to finish on a red to the same right-hand pocket.
It's all going swimmingly until a sloppy positional shot means he has to take on a long red up to the green pocket. He can’t conjure up the pot and the break halts on 30.

AROUND THE TABLES

  • Robertson 0-1 Crowley
  • Zhao 1-0 Xinbo
  • Wakelin 3-4 Hao
  • Result: Nassa 2-5 Zhou
  • Result: Wilson 5-0 Xiao
  • Result: Wilson.K 5-1 Tahir

TRUMP 1-1 NG

Judd seizes upon the error and is delighted to finally be amongst it after having had to watch on as his opponent settled into an immediate groove.
It’s all rather routine as he works his way into a healthy lead and he earns a frame-winning opportunity with a blue to middle right that engineers a cannon into the remaining three in the pack, tied to the pink.
The split is good enough and he glides a red down to the right corner to land neatly on the black off its spot.
The final two reds could be tricky, but he puts them to either corner along the bottom rail to move out of sight.
The colours are all on their spots and he doesn’t blink as a century clearance pulls him level.

TRUMP 0-1 NG (0-29)

It’s On-yee who gets in first again, racing to a break of 20, which ends prematurely when a cannon into a red off a black to the right corner stops dead and leaves her with nothing on.
A safety face-off ensues with On-Yee first to get an opportunity which she takes with a super red down the left rail via the rest.
A brilliant long red from right to left gets a lovely flick off the red furthest south of the pack to leave her on the black ,but her latest run ends on nine when she fails to knock in the black off its spot.

TRUMP 0-1 NG

It’s On-yee who races out of the traps, unleashing a stunning long red to the left to open and following with a pink and red before a blue to middle left presents the opportunity to split the pack.
Indeed, a red to the corner releases an array of balls from the bunch in the follow through and a lovely blue up the green pocket keeps her on course positionally.
It’s slick snooker from the three-time women’s world champion as she passes the half century and then knocks a red at the bottom of the last few reds bunched together to land on the black and leave Judd needing snookers.
It all ends shy of the ton but a break of 74 is an excellent statement of intent from the 34-year-old.
