The build-up to the Crucible continues as attention for the next week turns to the World Open.

It is the 14th ranking event of the season - sandwiched in between the Welsh Open and World Grand Prix - and Judd Trump was the man defending the trophy after his 10-4 victory over Ding Junhui in 2024.

The World Open plays a role in determining who takes the 16 places on offer from the one-year ranking list at the Players Championship.

A host of big names have been taking part in this year's event, including reigning champion Trump and world champion Kyren Wilson.

However, seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has not been one of the players competing in China due to "medical reasons".

The crowd has had plenty to cheer about, though, with the big breaks flying in. Masters champion Shaun Murphy continued his fine form with a stunning 147, the 10th of his career, in the second round during a 5-0 win over Zhou Jinhao.

Snooker legend John Higgins is now eyeing glory and yet another title.
