Welcome back to our live coverage of the World Grand Prix from Hong Kong as we reach the quarter-final stage in the chase for the £180,000 first prize. Shaun Murphy defeated John Higgins 5-3 with Neil Robertson also completing a 5-3 win over Xiao Guodong. Judd Trump hit the first 146 of his professional career in a superb 5-0 whitewash win over a struggling Hossein Vafaei in the World Grand Prix quarter-finals in Hong Kong.

It was one of four centuries the world No. 1 produced on his way to securing a semi-final meeting with 2015 world champion Stuart Bingham, who edged Mark Selby 5-4 from 4-2 behind.

Trump began the match against an opponent clearly hampered by a back problem by compiling the highest break of the event with 145, before beating it by a point in finalising the 64-minute victory at the new Kai Tak Arena.

He will earn the £10,000 high break prize in his adopted home city unless someone can produce a maximum 147 over the weekend.

Trump also produced 108 and 115 to reach 84 centuries for the season and remain on course for 100 centuries and a £100,000 bonus.

"Hossein missed one or two balls, but I played solid and scored very well. It's nice to have the crowd getting behind me and cheering for me," Trump told reporters.

"I'm proud to have been given the opportunity to represent them because I have always been an advocate for Hong Kong and I love it here.

"This event had a great field at the start of the week and the top players have been able to get through to the final weekend to showcase what they can do."

Bingham, who opened with a 116 break, was on course for a 147 against Selby in the fourth frame of a tense match, but missing a black off the spot on 65 enabled Selby to level at 2-2 with a 71 clearance.

It looked like the four-time world champion would progress when he added 75 and 96 to move 4-2 clear, but Bingham steeled himself to win the final three frames to progress with Selby faltering late on.

Meanwhile, Shaun Murphy had earlier equalled the highest break of the tournament on his way to completing an impressive 5-3 win over new World Open champion John Higgins in their quarter-final.

Both men had chances in an absorbing battle between two former Crucible champions, but it was Murphy who emerged the stronger player on the day by winning four of the final five frames from 2-1 behind.

The highlight saw the Masters champion equal Higgins' previous tournament high break of 143 in the fourth frame to level at 2-2 before a closing run of 112 saw him set up a semi-final meeting with Neil Robertson on Saturday.

Robertson had trailed Xiao Guodong 3-1, but restricted his opponent to only 24 points in the closing four frames as runs of 80, 65, 101 and 80 saw the Australian continue his quest for the £180,000 first prize.

Xiao led 2-0 with breaks of 54 and 99 with Robertson producing 92 in the third frame before assuming complete control in the second half of the match.

Murphy and Robertson begin their best-of-11-frame semi-final at 05:00 UK time on Saturday morning before Trump and Bingham take to the table at 11:30 UK time.

In goes the yellow off the side cushion, and Selby offers Stuart the handshake. Bingham through to face Judd Trump in the last four.

Selby needing four snookers on the colours. Gets one, but Bingham escapes. Getting points off these snookers so difficult.

BINGHAM 4-4 SELBY (64-17)

Fine pot on a red using the red by Bingham, and in goes black. Almost over the line here. In goes red and pink from Bingham. Looks all over. Selby chasing three snookers.

Selby with another huge blunder with the safety shot. Catches a red on way back to baulk and leaves Stuart an easy starter at the scoring end. Will it be third time lucky for the Ballrun here? Every pot a bit of an adventure now.

Break over before it began really. All getting very edgy as Bingham is forced to run safe. Two decent chances for Bingham has produced only 17 points.

BINGHAM 4-4 SELBY (8-1)

Fine mid-range red by Mark, but he can't drop in a tricky black along top cush. A second chance in frame falls to Bingham to at least build a lead.

BINGHAM 4-4 SELBY (8-0)

Selby with a safety error as he leaves a red to left centre, but Bingham only making eight with white into pack off yellow. The split is not productive. Safety to follow.

BINGHAM 3-4 SELBY (76-0)

And a quick 39 break from Bingham is good enough to level up at 4-4. Bingham has only won one out of eight career deciders between this duo. So stats favour Selby. "I think Mark Selby has gone into his shell a bit since creating that 4-2 lead," comments Dominic Dale in comms.

BINGHAM 3-4 SELBY (53-0)

Bingham butchered a safety shot to leave a red near left-hand middle, but was tough cueing and Selby can't slot object ball. Pressure telling and it has worked out well for Bingham, who has hand on table and chance to force the decider.

BINGHAM 3-4 SELBY (37-0)

Bingham reaching 37, but that is all for now. Down to a game of players tapping white in and out of the pack. Huge moments in the context of this match. Stuart won't fancy a re-rack holding this lead so something has to give.

BINGHAM 3-4 SELBY (24-0)

Brilliant long red by Bingham after Selby missed pack and went in-off to right centre. What a chance then for Stuart to force the decider here.

BINGHAM 2-4 SELBY (67-6)

This has been a very fine contribution from the Ballrun. Was under some pressure, but has responded well to the situation. 56 break and it is 4-3 to Selby.

Bingham seems to suffer a groin strain stretching for a blue. Prompts a few laughs before he sinks some water and back to the table to resume break.

Safety blunder by Selby in sticking a red over a middle bag via another red. So Stuart will sense the possibilities here. Plenty of balls in the open to make a big scoring visit.

Selby unfortunate to leave a plant on reds at back of pack from break-off shot, but Bingham needing no second invitation to slot plant. Probably vital that he makes some sort of sturdy score to halt the bleeding here. But he misses blue to left middle and ends up going in off. Very frustrating.

96 clearance of the very highest order from Selby as he reels off a third straight frame in some style. Get the feeling Bingham might have missed the boat in this match. Those two misses on blacks have turned this match against him.

BINGHAM 2-3 SELBY (0-61)

Safety error by Stuart as he brings red back down table. Catches it too thick and this looks like Selby is heading 4-2 clear. Bingham missed a black off spot chasing a 147 in the fourth frame heading for a 3-1 lead, and has been on the back foot ever since.

BINGHAM 2-3 SELBY (0-35)

Selby bidding to press home this advantage as he thumps home a stunning long red early in the sixth frame. But can't get pack open on 35. Just the safety shot to follow.

BINGHAM 2-2 SELBY (13-75)

Misses the pink so no century for Mark, but a 75 goes with the 71 in previous frame and Selby leads for the first time today at 3-2. Bingham has missed two blacks off spots in past two frames to leave his opponent among balls. So costly, but will it cost him the match? Selby in stroke out there, and has punished the Bingham blunders.

BINGHAM 2-2 SELBY (13-6)

Contrast between this joust and Trump's demolition of Vafaei is stark, but Bingham pots one red via another red to end a safety battle in his favour. Faced with a tricky black though seconds later and he misses it off the spot. What a chance he has passed up there as Selby returns to table.

The former world champions at their mid-session break with Selby producing 71 after Bingham opened with a 65, but missed black off spot. How vital will that prove to be?

Conditions look ideal for scoring out there. Winner of this will face winner of Selby and Bingham on the one-table set-up in last four on Saturday night at the Kai Tak Arena.

Stunning long red by Judd early in the fourth frame before Hossein comes up with a fine escape from a snooker. Hossein clearly struggling with some discomfort every time he comes to the table. Fair play trying out there during such a trying day.

A break of 75 from Selby against Bingham to restore parity on the other main showpiece table after a re-rack at the start of the second table.

108 of the very best from Judd, his second century of the match and he races three up ahead of the mid-session interval.

Break moves to 69 and Judd Trump is in cruise control. Chance to make an 82nd century of the season here in his chase for 100 tons this season. Which comes with a £100,000 bonus.

Into the lead in the frame, and this looks like Judd could be easing 3-0 to the good against an opponent who clearly isn't match-fit. Apparently issue is coming off disc in his spine. Not what you need.

Clearly struggling out there with back or shoulder issues and he misses a tricky black. Wincing at the table. And now wincing in his chair as Judd returns to the table looking to press on.

Murphy can't double black to extend frame and he offers the concession.

Robertson back to 3-3 in the other quarter-final with a break of 65 holding sway. Finely poised in race to five.

Higgins with a bit of a blunder on a safety shot as he clips red and sees white race back down the table. Golden chance for Murphy to resume scoring.

Higgins loses position after canning black. Almost angles himself against the green pocket, but the safety escape isn't good yet Higgins runs straight into the bunch of reds and sticks to them. No pot left on for Shaun.

So unfortunate for Murphy a he cans an excellent brown. Into the pack off one cush, but ends up getting a plant on a red that he never imagined would happen. And he leaves Higgins an easy starter. Big chance for John then is gifted to him, really.

Decent opening long red by John which will do his confidence no harm at all. Lands short of baulk line for green, but not on a red. Just the safety to follow.

Robertson rolls in 80 to reduce the deficit to 3-2 against Xiao in their quarter-final duel.

HIGGINS 2-2 MURPHY (25-58)

Higgins gets as far as the final red, but he misses green to a top bag before Murphy pops in the final red to leave the Scot needing two snookers on colours. Murphy shows his quality to escape from a tough snooker behind the black, and he drains the green to put the frame to bed. Higgins has seen enough. Chances for both men to win the fifth frame, but it falls to the 2005 world champion.

HIGGINS 2-2 MURPHY (6-54)

Murphy looking to get on the front foot, but he misses a tough pink when he looked on cusp of leading 3-2. Higgins returns to table with chance to launch the counter-attack. Reds all open. Chance for Higgins to score again.

Higgins can't drop in a long red. Which will disappoint him. Was chance to gain access to table, but Murphy back at the baize with a superb cut on a red of his own. Shaun looks in the mood today.

Murphy up and running again early in the fifth frame as he rams home another trademark long red. But isn't on a red this time early in the break. So just the safety shot to follow for the Masters champion.

A loose safety shot by Higgins leaves Murphy a long red and he bangs in the object ball before splashing open the pack seconds later off the blue. What a chance he has given himself here. Reds all open. Black out in the open. Could be 2-2 incoming.

Xiao with breaks of 55 and 99 to claim the first two frames on the other main table before Robertson unearths a run of 92 to secure his first frame of the match. Xiao at the table in the third frame looking to move 3-1 clear at the break.

HIGGINS 1-1 MURPHY (91-46)

Another miss on the green from Higgins and this frame is right back in the mixer here. But Higgins comes off two cushions to knock in the green over the left middle bag. And in flies the brown. Higgins sees it out. Quite an astonishing end to the frame. Higgins finally seeing out the frame for a 2-1 lead.

HIGGINS 1-1 MURPHY (66-42)

Well, this is remarkable, Murphy flukes a snooker behind brown. Higgins escapes, clips the green but ends up going in off the green and white ends up in left middle. Easy snooker for Murphy to lay behind brown. What an amazing turnaround this could be. And Higgins misses green on way down table. Astonishing really.

HIGGINS 1-1 MURPHY (66-34)

Murphy chasing the snooker he needs on the colours, but Higgins picks out a long yellow to add another snooker to his total. Now two snookers required on the green.

Murphy got in first, but missed a tricky shot with extended rest. And Higgins has responded with 64. Murphy requiring a snooker otherwise it will be a 2-1 lead for the Scotsman.
