A topsy-turvy affair saw Hawkins take an early two-frame lead featuring a gorgeous break of 92.
But Trump hit back with two fine breaks of his own to level the scores.
And the in-form pair then proceeded to alternate frames right through until the final stanza of the best-of-11 match.
A nervy, tactical opening to the decisive frame was finally brought to an end by Trump, and Hawkins didn't get another feel of the table.
Trump will face Ali Carter in Sunday's final.
