Ronnie O’Sullivan has been impressed by Stan Moody’s approach to professional snooker.
The teenager burst onto the scene in early 2022 when winning a match at the Snooker Shoot Out at the age of 15.
His progress continued, and victory in the WSF Junior Snooker Championship 12 months ago earned Moody a two-year place on the World Snooker Tour.
Moody has not set the world alight in his first season, albeit he did reach the third round of the Northern Ireland Open.
It was a similar result for Moody at this week’s Welsh Open, as experienced campaigner Dominic Dale beat him in the third round.
Moody cut a positive figure in an interview with Eurosport, and his approach won approval from world No. 1 O’Sullivan who added it would be interesting if he had the same mindset in 10 years’ time.
“It is great to hear him like that, and I want to hear him speak like that in another 10 years once he’s had a few tough matches, a few tough tournaments and realises how tough this game is,” O’Sullivan said in his role as a pundit for Eurosport in Llandudno.
O’Sullivan continued: “To see him so young, coming here and enjoying his snooker, you can see he really just loves the game and has an amazing temperament for it.
“You can imagine if he did find it hard he’d still find enjoyment in the game, you just get that impression.”
Alan McManus feels Moody has time to bed into the professional ranks, but needs to string some wins together or face the prospect of losing his tour card.
“He had a good tournament in Belfast pre-Christmas,” McManus said.
“This is the season of discovery for Stan Moody. If Stan does not start winning a lot of matches between now and the end of next season, he is going to fall victim [falling off the tour].
“But he has time on his hands; he is becoming a very good player day on day.”
