Quarter-finals
Friday, November 29
13:00
  • Barry Hawkins 6-2 Shaun Murphy
  • Judd Trump 6-2 Zhang Anda
19:00
  • Jack Lisowski 3-6 Mark Allen
  • Michael Holt 3-6 Kyren Wilson

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (71-44)

Finally Allen is over the line as he cans a superb brown and Jack offers the handshake. He is through to face Barry Hawkins on Saturday evening with a 6-3 win.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (67-44)

Chance for Allen to seal the deal, but a long green rattles the jaws and on we go. Remarkable Lisowski has recovered to this point. Lisowski then flukes a snooker after potting green. Allen escapes. Down to the final four balls. Allen sees a double on brown narrowly fail to drop.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (67-41)

And there is one snooker back. And a free ball. In goes the pink as a yellow. A double on yellow sees yellow drop in. Didn't play that. But Jack gets a second snooker behind the brown as Allen misses green on top cushion. Well, lead down to 26 with 25 left up. Nervy moments.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (67-29)

Jack now needing three snookers on the final red. Could always get a free ball. Which is unlikely. Allen sticks up red. And Lisowski is forced to slot the final and blue. Still requires three snookers on colours.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (67-16)

Lisowski needing two snookers. But looks a tall order with black tied up. Jack slams in a black to green bag. What a pot that is. Battling to stay alive here.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (60-0)

Looks like Jack's race has been run in this match. Lisowski has dropped off it from leading 3-1, but Allen right on it after the mid-session break.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (51-0)

Allen heading for the 50-mark. In goes a thin cut on a black. Opens up two reds off the top cushion. Super shot. Inching towards the winning post. Excellent pot on a red at pace along top cushion, but he misses a black off the pink spot. Always wide. Just the break of 51. Match not yet a done deal.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI (29-0)

3-1 down at the mid-session break, but looks like Mark Allen is set to take out a fifth straight frame for a 6-3 win over Jack Lisowski. Has really come on strong in the second half of this match.

HOLT 3-5 WILSON (0-89)

Down to the final four reds here. Can he make the maximum at this visit? Table has been ideal for the 147 attempt. Reaches 89 with three reds remaining. But he misses the black off spot on 89 trying to play a cannon. Groans from the crowd, but the match is won. A 6-3 victory for Wilson and he will face Judd Trump on Saturday in the semi-finals.

HOLT 3-5 WILSON (0-67)

Chance of a 147 here too. With eight reds and eight blacks drained. Reds all out in open. So very decent chance to make the maximum.

ALLEN 5-3 LISOWSKI

Another frame is secured by Allen on the other main showpiece table. Needs one more frame for a meeting with Barry Hawkins on Saturday night.

HOLT 3-5 WILSON (0-17)

Holt has a pop at a long red. Can't come up with goodies, and he has stuck up the frame for Kyren here. Reds and blacks all in the open. Glorious chance to make a big break here. Will Holt be coming back to the table?

HOLT 3-4 WILSON (16-68)

Terrific long red from Kyren late in the frame, and that finalises the 5-3 lead in York. One more frame required to secure a meeting with Judd Trump in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon.

HOLT 3-4 WILSON (8-67)

Proving to be a timely response here to quell the Holt recovery. Break reaches 59 as the world champion bangs in yellow with rest. Drops in another red and pink. And this is going to be a one-visit hit from Kyren, who is only chasing one more frame for a spot in the last four. But a pink stays out on 67. Holt needs snookers.

HOLT 3-4 WILSON (0-27)

Fine opening red by Kyren straight off the bat. Looking to reassert his authority out there. And this looks like a decent opportunity with the reds opened off black. Holt with an early error, and will be fearing the worst.

HOLT 2-4 WILSON (75-6)

Holt showing why he has defeated Gary Wilson and Jak Jones this week. This has been excellent. Right in the mix here to upset Wilson too. Kyren has seen enough of this frame. Another key frame coming up then.

HOLT 2-4 WILSON (41-6)

Holt looking to get this frame won in one visit. Wasting little time in getting down to pot balls. Would expect him to go close to winning the frame at this visit. Golden chance to get back to 4-3 behind.

ALLEN 4-3 LISOWSKI

A third straight frame is claimed by Allen as he moves ahead by the odd frame in seven on the other table.

HOLT 2-4 WILSON (13-6)

Both men having a dart at long reds, but nothing doing. Kyren trying to size up his next move. Goes for deep screw back to baulk, but ends up hitting the red on the way back to baulk. Chance for Holt then to get hand on table.

HOLT 2-4 WILSON (12-1)

Holt goes for a long red. Well, off potting angle, but no harm done. Wilson then sees a white drift away trying to roll from baulk. Early safety joust.

HOLT 1-4 WILSON (78-9)

Not overly convincing, but Holt sees enough points away to pick up a second frame of the evening. Back to 4-2 behind.

HOLT 1-4 WILSON (45-9)

Holt scrambling to keep this break going. Floats in a lovely black before hammering in a red. Great pot bridging over another red. White is covering some ground, but he remains at the table. Until he misses yellow with the rest. Pressure ball. Chance for Wilson to counter. 45 not enough. But Kyren misses a pink seconds later. Surely Holt is set to win his second frame.

HOLT 1-4 WILSON (21-8)

Super long red by Kyren, but he breaks down seconds later as a tricky cut on a red to left middle eludes him. Lost the white ball from the black, and Holt is presented with chance to build an advantage.

ALLEN 2-3 LISOWSKI

Allen continues to battle as he dominates the fifth frame to close to within one of Jackpot.

HOLT 1-3 WILSON (50-78)

Well, this has been a cue ball clinic from Kyren. Just needs up to the blue to take out the frame from 50-0 down. A clearance of 72 from Wilson. And he is once again moving 4-1 up in the race to six.

HOLT 1-3 WILSON (50-26)

Wilson misses a tricky cut on a red, but he retrieves the situation with a powerhouse pot on a long red. Screws white back to baulk for an easy brown. Seconds later, a red is released from side rail. And he then drops in a lovely cut on a pink. Glorious chance of a 4-1 lead incoming for Kyren.

HOLT 1-3 WILSON (50-1)

Reaches 45, but short of pace on blue. Wrong side of the blue. And he butchers the mid-range red as it wriggles in jaws. Pressure on that one. Didn't cue it properly, and reprieve for Kyren.

HOLT 1-3 WILSON (30-0)

Michael not hanging around early in the fifth frame frame as he slams in another superb long red. That won't do his confidence any harm whatsoever. Chance to press on with a healthy break. But out of ideal position on 24. Faced with a tricky pink using rest. And in it goes. Very decent chance for Hitman to win frame in one hit.

ALLEN 1-3 LISOWSKI

Jackpot in the box seat on table two. He is 3-1 up on Allen after reeling off three straight frames. Break of 88 from the Gloucester player.

HOLT 0-3 WILSON (110-16)

64 from Holt is very nice indeed. Wilson with a 3-1 lead at the interval. Not a bad way to take a break for the world No. 98.

HOLT 0-3 WILSON (84-16)

Looks like Holt might be on the verge of claiming the fourth frame. A timely snooker behind brown prompts the error from WIlson. Reds all in the open. No need to put white back. Should be 3-1 at the break. Still in the hunt before they head for a cuppa.

HOLT 0-3 WILSON (41-16)

Much, much better from Michael at this visit. Highest break of match so far. Faced with a tricky cut on a red, and the object ball stays above board. That is not what you are looking for. Kyren looking to launch the counter. In goes black and out comes a red from the pack. What is he going to make here? And the answer is 16 as white ends up sticking to a red in the cluster.

'Like a dream' - Lisowski posts classy century to level against Allen

HOLT 0-3 WILSON (31-0)

An easy starter for 'The Hitman' after Kyren can't prod in a long red. Red sticks over a top pocket. Chance for Holt to build a lead in this fourth frame. Vital that he doesn't fall 4-0 behind.

HOLT 0-2 WILSON (46-77)

This has been clinical from Kyren. Taking out the final three reds, and releases a red from side cushion. Doing what world champions do. In goes the blue and pink he needs for the frame. And that is a 3-0 advantage. Holt punished for that poor miss on the red. Cost him the third frame.

HOLT 0-2 WILSON (46-38)

Appeared to be a miscue from Wilson tight on the baulk cushion, and another chance is presented to Holt in his quest for this third frame. But he throws in a quick jab on a red, misses the object ball and the world champion is not punished.

HOLT 0-2 WILSON (8-38)

Didn't see that coming as a yellow with the rest is missed by Kyren. Vital that Holt weighs in with a few points at this visit to apply some pressure to the Wilson cue action.

HOLT 0-2 WILSON (0-21)

Another safety blunder by Michael. Too many of them so far. White barely makes it beyond the blue, and Kyren rams in the object ball with ease. Another black is right in heart of pocket along top cush. Starting to gather momentum here.

ALLEN 1-1 LISOWSKI

Jackpot quick to level up matters with 114 in the second frame. 1-1 on table two.

HOLT 0-1 WILSON (1-76)

Two superb recovery pots by Wilson with a dashing red to green pocket before a cutblack follows black and a mid-range red is drained. Obviously very happy with his game. 72 break, and a 2-0 lead is on the board.

HOLT 0-1 WILSON (1-55)

This is very impressive from Kyren so far. Operating like the world champion he is. Putting the foot down on the Holt blunder. Looking very good for a 2-0 lead incoming.

HOLT 0-1 WILSON (1-12)

Error by Holt as he sees white disappear into the yellow pocket off a red in baulk. That is a poor error. Wilson with hand on table, and chance to build a lead in the second frame.

HOLT 0-1 WILSON (1-0)

Frame developing into a tactical battle with both players forced to tap the ball around the top end of table and back to the top cushion. Holt picks out a double on red, but refuses black to green pocket.

ALLEN 1-0 LISOWSKI

Break of 59 from the Northern Irishman to establish a 1-0 lead in the race to six on the other table.

HOLT 0-0 WILSON (14-70)

Holt bangs in a long red of his own, but nothing to follow. Wilson adds 14 points to see off the first frame of the night.

HOLT 0-0 WILSON (0-56)

Wilson reaches 52, but can't get four reds out in the open. Has a pop at a long red to green bag, but well off the potting angle. A handy lead for the world champion.

HOLT 0-0 WILSON (0-12)

Holt with a safety error to leave Wilson a shot at a long red. Which he duly slots. Holt muttering in his chair. He knows that is a mistake. And it could be a costly one as Kyren holds for black.

HOLT 0-0 WILSON (0-4)

Wilson is 5-4 clear of Holt on the career head-to-heads. They last met in the last 32 of the Scottish Open four years ago with Wilson running out a 4-2 winner.

HOLT 0-0 WILSON (0-0)

World No. 98 Holt has won four matches to qualify for the UK Championship in York and two matches at the venue against Gary Wilson and Jak Jones. Can he continue his shock run with a victory over the world champion Kyren Wilson tonight?

REPORT: TRUMP AND HAWKINS SIZZLE TO REACH SEMI-FINALS

Judd Trump may have had to wait until the final frame to dispatch John Higgins in the previous round, but he had no such problems in the last eight. The world No. 1 got the job done with minimal fuss to ease into the semi-finals, where either world champion Kyren Wilson or Michael Holt await. Trump romped his way to a 5-0 lead, falling just short of a Ronnie O'Sullivan record. Read more here

THANKS FOR JOINING US

We will be back just before 7pm this evening with the final two quarter-finals. Jack Lisowski against Mark Allen, and world champion Kyren Wilson up against Michael Holt in a couple of fascinating duels.

RESULT: HAWKINS 6-2 MURPHY

He will face Jack Lisowski or Mark Allen in the quarter-finals on Saturday. "Now it starts getting interesting, and we've all got a chance," said Hawkins.
"I thought I played good," said Murphy. "I thought Barry played fantastic. I said that the person who beats Ronnie O'Sullivan usually goes on to have a good week, and unfortunately I was right. If he plays like that, he will win."

HAWKINS 5-2 MURPHY (82-0)

Remarkable level of play from Hawkins, who compiles a break of 82 to seal the victory. 69, 91, 80 and 82 to finish off with four straight frames. He is through to the last four. A sporting round of applause from Murphy at the end of the match.

HAWKINS 5-2 MURPHY (48-0)

All going the way of Hawkins now as a brown disappears. Off one cushion, and into the reds. Out pops a red, and the end is nigh in this match. What a performance from 'The Hawk'.

HAWKINS 5-2 MURPHY (30-0)

The 2013 world finalist is very much in the zone out there. Golden chance to advance to the semi-finals at this visit.

HAWKINS 5-2 MURPHY (15-0)

Hawkins is up and running in the eighth frame. Superb long red as the 2005 world champion can only sit and suffer. Lands perfectly on the black. Is Murphy going to get another chance in this match? Must be some doubt here.

HAWKINS 5-2 MURPHY (0-0)

69, 91 and 80 from Hawkins since the mid-session interval and a 5-2 lead for Hawkins against Murphy. Needs one more frame to set up a semi-final meeting with Jack Lisowski or Mark Allen on Saturday.

RESULT: TRUMP 6-2 ZHANG

TRUMP 5-2 ZHANG (120-0)

Judd finishing with a flourish. A break of 120 from Trump and he is through to the semi-finals to face Michael Holt or Kyren Wilson in the last four on Saturday. Looking very, very good.

TRUMP 5-2 ZHANG (70-0)

In goes frame and match-ball from Judd. Opens up the reds from black. And opportunity now to finished with a fourth century of the afternoon.

TRUMP 5-2 ZHANG (37-0)

Suddenly the reds are freed up from around the black. Every chance here to get this match won you suspect. Making his run for the line with Zhang doing nothing wrong.

TRUMP 5-2 ZHANG (8-0)

Stunning long red by Judd at the outset of the eighth frame. Would love to get this match won as soon as possible.

TRUMP 5-1 ZHANG (3-124)

And a classy 100 break of his own from the Chinese player. Refusing to buckle at the Barbican.

TRUMP 5-1 ZHANG (3-99)

Zhang set to produce a century of his own. Superb response.

TRUMP 5-1 ZHANG (3-67)

Zhang with a fine long red after Judd goes in-off slotting a red to right middle. Not far away from winning back-to-back frames at the Barbican. Tricky cut on a red to left centre. In it goes, followed by black. Back to 5-2 behind.

HAWKINS 3-2 MURPHY

'The Hawk' restores his lead with a break of 69 in the fifth frame. Looking for three more to reach the semi-finals.

TRUMP 5-1 ZHANG (3-20)

Zhang back to where he was against Bingham yesterday. And back among the balls here as a long red is nailed with some interest before a blue is despatched with some authority. Super piece of cueing. But too much screw in potting a black as white ends up near a side rail. Can't slot a red off a side cush as break ends on 20.

TRUMP 5-0 ZHANG (14-62)

Judd cans another double on a red. Not what he needed. No colour to follow. Judd needs snookers, but he won't play for them as the conession comes. A 5-1 lead for Judd.

TRUMP 5-0 ZHANG (3-62)

Brilliant cross double by Judd on a red. But only a yellow to follow. Still five reds left above board. Four are on side cushions.

TRUMP 5-0 ZHANG (0-62)

This frame a tad scrappy to what has come before, but looks like Zhang might stave of the whitewash. In with a 55 before Trump can't nudge in a long red. Zhang returns to table, but misses a tricky red along the top cush.

TRUMP 5-0 ZHANG (0-18)

So finally the first chance of a frame falls to Zhang as a long red to green bag doesn't drop for Judd. Chance to build a lead. Remember Zhang came from 5-1 behind yesterday in a 6-5 win to against Stuart Bingham.

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (71-11)

Blunder from Zhang as he sticks up a red at the top end of the table. And that will be the frame done and dusted. Trump pockets another 10 points to see off the frame.

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (61-11)

A rare bout of safety play breaking out here with three reds left above board. Judd just needs one of them to seal the deal for a 5-0 lead.

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (61-11)

And Ronnie's record of 556 without replay is safe for another day as Zhang finally cans a red and then pots a brilliant long yellow. A huge smile from Zhang to end the drought. Has had the kitchen sink thrown at him today. Misses a pink off the spot. Trump 50 clear with a possible 51 left up.
picture

'Playing like a dream' - Trump with hat-trick century in quarter-final

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (61-0)

Another frame heading for Trump as he crashes into the reds of pink. Up to 527 points without reply. Misses a red on 61. On the verge of a 5-0 lead. Zhang still to pot a ball.

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (20-0)

Well, this is remarkable. Once again Trump opens up reds off the blue. Glorious chance to crack on with another frame. Ronnie O'Sullivan's record of 556 points without reply could go here. Trump up to 494.

TRUMP 4-0 ZHANG (7-0)

Trump breaks off for the fifth frame of a possible 11. He needs two more frames to lock down a spot in the last four. Decent break-off shot too. Zhang studying the table from the baulk end. Early error from Zhang with the double kiss on a red. Judd rolls in red to green bag. Makes this looks so easy. First chance again falls to Judd.

HAWKINS 2-2 MURPHY

Murphy restores parity at 2-2 with breaks of 108 and 92. Nobody lacking scoring form today

TRUMP 3-0 ZHANG (131-0)

What can you say about that? 131 as Trump misses the final black. But no matter. 89, 126, 120 and 131. Zhang yet to register a point. 466 points from Trump without reply.

TRUMP 3-0 ZHANG (75-0)

And another century could be on the cards here from Trump. His third straight ton of the match. Zhang will head for a cup of tea, and might well wonder what has hit him here. Yet to pot a ball.

HAWKINS 2-1 MURPHY

Murphy back in the ball game on table two with a lovely contribution of 108. One more frame before the mid-session interval. These boys not hanging about out there this afternoon.

TRUMP 3-0 ZHANG (38-0)

Zhang has yet to register a point in this contest. Astonishing really. Trump this time with another perfect plant. Pops in black from distance. Into the reds at pace, and lands ideally on the object ball. On another day that would go wrong. But when your luck is in, your luck is in. Zhang can only sit and watch as another plant on reds disappears. Brutal first hour for the former International Championship winner Zhang.

HAWKINS 2-0 MURPHY

'The Hawk' is on a roll on table two. Moves two up on Murphy within the first hour. Just the start he was looking for.

TRUMP 2-0 ZHANG (120-0)

Another sizzling break of 120 from Trump. His 40th of the season. Feeling good out there. Zhang yet to pot a ball. Which says it all.

TRUMP 2-0 ZHANG (72-0)

Performing a bit like peak O'Sullivan here. In goes a red, white goes straight into pack and more reds are developed. In goes frame-clinching red and another stunning blue to yellow bag. This frame is a done deal. Trump halfway up the hill to the winning line. Chance of back-to-back centuries too.

TRUMP 2-0 ZHANG (35-0)

Zhang yet to pot a ball in this match so far. And could be 3-0 behind in the blink of an eye. A tough old school at the elite level.

TRUMP 2-0 ZHANG (20-0)

It is all Judd at the moment. Every shot seems to be heading into the heart of the pocket. Zhang went for a long red. Slammed against the jaws. And off goes Trump again with first poke at these balls. Superb stun shot on blue to right centre to open up a few more reds.

HAWKINS 1-0 MURPHY

Barry Hawkins with a 63 break in the first frame to lead Murphy.

TRUMP 1-0 ZHANG (126-0)

And that is just superb from 'The Juddernaut'. 126 from Judd Trump, his 39th of the season. Just too good.

TRUMP 1-0 ZHANG (83-0)

Supreme pot on a pink down table to the green pocket. Surely a century is coming up here for Trump.

TRUMP 1-0 ZHANG (56-0)

Really doesn't get better on a snooker table than this from Trump. One long red, and a clearance. Second chance to make a century here too.

TRUMP 1-0 ZHANG (48-0)

Lovely shot by Judd to nudge in a pink to left centre. Tried to develop black, but all good on pink. Suddenly threatening to knock off these two first frames with Zhang doing little or nothing wrong. In goes a pink, more reds are brought out, and this is a golden chance now.

TRUMP 1-0 ZHANG (15-0)

Terrific long red by Judd to slam in a long red down a side rail before screwing back up the table for brown. Clearly trying to make a fast start to this quarter-final after two tough battles with Neil Robertson and John Higgns.

TRUMP 0-0 ZHANG (89-0)

Judd with a break of 89 as black wriggles in jaws. Frame has only been going for nine minutes, but Zhang punished for leaving him an easier starter. Can't afford to leave Trump in from close range.

TRUMP 0-0 ZHANG (51-0)

Stunning recovery pot on a blue by Trump to slam in a blue to yellow pocket to continue this break. Looks like Judd is going to move 1-0 clear in the opening frame of the day. Start as you mean to go on.

TRUMP 0-0 ZHANG (19-0)

Trump first to the punch in the opening frame of the day. Quickly gets the reds open off the black. Decent chance for the world No. 1 to pick up from where he left off against John Higgins. By mopping up these balls.

BOYS ON BAIZE FOR QUARTER-FINAL FRIDAY

Trump is 5-3 clear of Zhang in their career head-to-heads, but lost 4-2 in their previous meeting in the last 64 of the Scottish Open last year. There was also that epic English Open final last season when Trump came from 7-3 down to complete a 9-7 victory. Should be a fascinating few hours with an expectant sell-out crowd inside the Barbican in York.

HIGGINS RECEIVES BOOST AFTER TRUMP DEFEAT

John Higgins lost 9-3 to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final of the Masters at the Wembley Conference Centre in 1995, his tournament debut at the elite event. And the Scotsman, winner of the Masters in 1999 and 2006, will make a record-extending 31st straight appearance at the Alexandra Palace with his place in the field confirmed on Thursday despite a narrow 6-5 last-16 defeat to Judd Trump in York.
