Reigning champion Mark Allen lost 6-5 in the first round to Ding Junhui in a repeat of the 2022 final, while Neil Robertson also exited early at the hands of Zhou Yuelong. The 2023/24 snooker season kicks up a gear with the first Triple Crown event, as the UK Championship takes place at the Barbican in York.
Mark Allen is the reigning champion after his pulsating 10-7 win over Ding Junhui in last year's final, and heads into his title defence full of confidence after beating Judd Trump in the Champion of Champions.
There are plenty of stars to look out for, with the top 16 seeds including the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, world champion Luca Brecel and John Higgins.
Some big names have had to progress through qualifying, with Ding and Hossein Vafaei making their way into star-studded clashes against Allen and Shaun Murphy respectively.
Other stand-out ties include a match-up between world No. 1 O'Sullivan and Anthony McGill, while Trump begins with a match against Pang Junxu, and Brecel faces Yuan SiJun.
