Jimmy White moved within one win of a spot at the Scottish Open in Edinburgh, after overcoming Hatem Yassen 4-1 in the first qualifying round on Tuesday.
The six-time world finalist was always in control against his Egyptian opponent as he only dropped the fourth frame to reach the last 96 of the Home Nations event.
White next faces talented Welsh potter Jackson Page on Wednesday afternoon, knowing a win will see him advance to the last 64.
That would be a meeting with Robert Milkins at Meadowbank Sports Centre, the finals venue for the season's 11th ranking event in the Scottish capital, live on Eurosport and discovery+.
Meanwhile, English Open semi-finalist Ishpreet Singh Chadha booked a meeting with world No. 1 Judd Trump in the first round in Edinburgh with a 4-2 win over Sanderson Lam.
Lam produced knocks of 76 and 77, but Singh Chadha reeled off the final three frames, boosted by a closing run of 71 to complete a 4-2 victory in the second qualifying round.
