Scottish Open snooker: Jimmy White seals Edinburgh trip with qualifying win, Chris Wakelin and David Gilbert progress

Jimmy White, Chris Wakelin and David Gilbert booked their spots at the Scottish Open with qualifying wins in Leicester on Tuesday, while Aaron Hill overcame Ken Doherty in their all-Irish encounter. The third event of the Home Nation Series is being held for the second straight year at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh between December 11-17, and will be live on Eurosport and discovery+.

Jimmy 'Whirlwind' White booked his spot at the Scottish Open with a battling 4-3 win over former German Masters semi-finalist Duane Jones.
The six-time world finalist trailed 3-1 in the opening qualifying round but won the final three frames to book his spot in the last 64.
White rolled in a 61 break in the sixth frame, after his Welsh opponent had earlier produced knocks of 56 and 77.
The Scottish Open is the third event of the Home Nation Series and will be played between December 11-17, live on Eurosport and discovery+.
Elsewhere in qualifying at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, Northern Ireland Open finalist Chris Wakelin who lost 9-3 to Judd Trump in Belfast on Sunday night – returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Mark Joyce.
Wakelin compiled breaks of 71, 66, 67 and 71, with Joyce running in 73 and 68.
David Gilbert lost 5-4 to Barry Hawkins in the quarter-finals of the Northern Ireland Open last week, but quickly bounced back to edge out Jak Jones 4-3 on the final black.
In a high-quality contest, Gilbert produced breaks of 54, 115 and 60 with Jones forcing the decider with knocks of 125, 76 and 106.
There also a 4-1 win for Aaron Hill against 1997 world champion Ken Doherty in an all-Irish encounter as Hill reeled off four frames in a row to reach the last 64.
Stuart Bingham, the 2015 world champion, also advanced to the finals venue in Edinburgh after completing a 4-0 whitewash win against Michael White.
All the first-round matches are contested over the best of seven frames with the world's top 16 starting their respective campaigns at the finals venue alongside two matches involving local wild cards.
World No. 1 Ronnie O'Sullivan was handed a tournament opener against Glaswegian Liam Graham.
World champion Luca Brecel, winner of the 2021 event, takes on Iulian Boiko of Ukraine with English Open, Wuhan Open and Northern Ireland Open champion Judd Trump up against Sydney Wilson to start.
