Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters: Jimmy White's Riyadh run ended by Si Jiahui; Stuart Bingham & Neil Robertson progress

Jimmy White's run in the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters was ended after he was beaten by Si Jiahui 4-2 in the third round. 'The Whirlwind' took the opening frame in Riyadh but three half centuries from Si helped him claim a 4-2 win and move into the fourth round. Earlier, former world champion Stuart Bingham delivered a professional display to advance past Xing Zihao.

Jimmy White was beaten 4-2 by Si Jiahui to exit the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in the third round.

'The Whirlwind' claimed victories over Mohamed Shehab and Andrew Higginson to reach round three in Riyadh, but was second best against Si.

White took the opening frame but quickly found himself on the verge of defeat after Si took a 3-1 lead thanks to breaks of 69 and 57.

White kept his hopes alive by winning the fifth frame but Si booked his spot in the next round with a break of 72.

Si will face former world champion Graeme Dott in the last 32, after the Scot beat Sam Craigie 4-0.

Earlier, Xing Zihao knocked in two consecutive century breaks in his match against Stuart Bingham, but it was the Brit who advanced following a professional display.

The 2015 world champion came from behind to win 4-2 and set up a fourth-round match with Anthony Hamilton who beat Jamie Jones.

Bingham drew first blood with the opening frame and set himself up nicely to follow through with a significant run in the second.

But the 48-year-old had put too much screw on the white when putting away the black into the bottom left, which left him unable to line up his next shot and instead had to play back to baulk.

Zihao seized the opportunity to put down a marker and responded brilliantly to going behind with a smooth break of 115 to level proceedings before the impressive 19-year-old passed the century mark again with a knock of 119 to pull ahead.

Bingham did just enough in the following two frames to edge Zihao, who became slightly complacent as the Brit restored his early lead and moved to within one of victory in the best-of-seven encounter.

Bingham, whose highest break of the contest was 57, finished the match as he started it by sealing a clinical frame without much fuss to advance to the fourth round.

Chris Wakelin beat Robbie McGuigan with a 4-2 win, while English duo Ricky Walden and Robert Milkins were defeated, 4-1 to Liu Hongyu and 4-3 to Rory Thor respectively.

Neil Robertson also booked his place in the fourth round with a 4-1 win over Paul Deaville.

The Australian was not at his fluent best but had enough firepower to ease through and set up a clash with Gong Chenzhi who beat Jackson Page.

Robertson managed just one half century, taking the opener with a break of 66 before the contest turned scrappy.

After doubling his lead in the next, the shot of the match came from Deaville – an incredible two-cushion escape that left Robertson snookered and helped him take the third frame – but the experience of the former world champion eventually told.

Robertson, once the most feared potter in the sport, leaned on the other side of his game to get over the line and advance to the next round in Riyadh.

Noppon Saengkham made the first maximum break in Saudi Arabia in the first frame of his 4-1 win over Amir Sarkhosh.

Elsewhere, Stephen Maguire and David Gilbert also booked their spots in round four.

Maguire made light work of Belgium’s Ben Mertens, compiling breaks of 58, 66 and 65 in a 4-0 whitewash.

He will next play Wu Yize, who beat Antoni Kowalski by the same scoreline.

Gilbert was also in inspired form in round three. He knocked in breaks of 50, 73, 100 and 68 to prevail 4-0 in an all-English clash with Alfie Burden.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh was too strong for his opponent as he dispatched Artemijs Zizins 4-1 for a place in round four.

Ryan Day eased past Stan Moody with a 4-2 victory, which he rounded off with an impressive century of 112 in the sixth frame after a sensational break of 125 in the fourth.
