Saudi Arabia Masters LIVE - Ronnie O'Sullivan beats Chang Bingyu after Mark Williams thrashes Shaun Murphy
Updated 13/08/2025 at 21:19 GMT+1
The big guns take to the tables again in Jeddah on Wednesday, with top stars from the world's top 16 continuing their challenge for glory at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters. Former world champions go head-to-head as Shaun Murphy faces Mark Williams and Neil Robertson takes on Mark Selby, all before another legend, Ronnie O'Sullivan, takes centre stage in the evening session.

A vintage comeback from Ronnie O'Sullivan saw him come back from 5-2 down to flow past Chang Bingyu, who played well but perhaps tightened at the end. He was much the better player in the early stages, quickly building a 4-1 lead, and when he moved to within one of victory, it looked unlikely that he would not win one before the Rocket won four. Or not. Out of nowhere, the genius appeared, O'Sullivan closed the gap, and eventually capitalised when the pressure told on his opponent, who'll learn from the experience. He meets Kyren Wilson next.

Ronnie O'Sullivan beats Chang Bingyu 6-5
Yeah, that was brilliant. Biggup Chang, who played well; Ronnie's will to still do this, and still be able to play that well and naturally – to find a way – is as mind-boggling as ever. Next for Ronnie: Kyren Wilson, who's beaten Si Jiahui. Tasty!
O'Sullivan 5-5 Chang (73-1)
This is over. Brilliant from Ronnie, who's going to win a fourth frame in a row. You have to play really well to beat him, especially over a longer match. Will he finish it with a ton?
O'Sullivan 5-5 Chang (50-1)
Chang will regret not taking that blue; in a decider, you eschew chances at your peril. But also, there's the greatest genius ever hitting a bit of a seam and really wanting to win. This feels over.
O'Sullivan 5-5 Chang (35-1)
Ronnie gets in quickly then out of naewhere, undercuts to right corner. With his cue, he clubs air, puts it on his shoulder asa rifle, and stalks off. But Chang is a little tentative now. A poor positional shot persuades him to play safe, when he might take on a blue – he would've done earlier tonight – nad in comma, they think he's nervous. He leaves a starter anyway, a terrific black gets the buzz underway, and Ronnie is on the march, around the table exactly as he does.

O'Sullivan 5-5 Chang
Three in a row for Ronnie, and we're going all the way. Bring it on, chaps.
O'Sullivan 4-5 Chang (50-53)
Chang forges in front; there's a red near the side and another on the top that he needs to be rid of. And he jawses the latter! Ach! In comma, Ken reckons he went at it harder than was necessary, he'll be feeling a way, and he soon leaves Ronnie an opportunity. There's a pink available across the table that cuts to right corner ... if he misses, game over ... he's on the cushion ... and he nails it! This could've been over; now it looks like a decider! This is a bazzer of a contest.
O'Sullivan 4-5 Chang (37-31)
It's tricky getting going, but a lovely recovery-pot, delicately poked, opens plenty, and from here Chang knows he should win. He's flowing nicely.
O'Sullivan 4-5 Chang (37-6)
A nice rest-shot opens things, but having to lean onto to table to slot a black, he leaves himself nothing but a red sending long to the yellow bag. This is colossal ... and he can't get it down. Chance for Chang to secure frame and match. Pressure!
O'Sullivan 4-5 Chang (21-0)
Chang blinks. He makes a poor attempt at potting to left corner, leaves a simple starter, and Ronnie is again in the balls. He's quite good from here, but as he opens things, he also knows he can't afford to miss.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 3-4 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 5-2 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 5-3 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 4-5 Chang
This isn't inexorable because Chang is good enough to take a chance at some point, but it's ominous.
O'Sullivan 3-5 Chang (83-4)
Ronnie eyes up one to middle across the table ... and he smokes it home. This will be another one back; he, and the match, are hotting up. How will Chang respond?
O'Sullivan 3-5 Chang (59-4)
A cannon into the pack with a red and colour still needed ... all that's available is a speculative long cut to the green bag. It's not that close, but nor is Chang's retort-double. Is Ronnie running into a bit of form just as Chang's is waning a touch?
O'Sullivan 3-5 Chang (37-4)
The safety exchange is won by Ronnie, and though the reds are in various clusters, it feels like he might just know the order in which to remove them, making every pot as low-risk as possible.
O'Sullivan 3-5 Chang (22-0)
Ooh yeah, Ronnie drills home a long opener, he's poifect on the blue, and off he goes removing obstacles He's so good at this – his shot-selection is so good, he just has play the shot well. Not so, say the snooker gods, by way of bad contact. So it's a safety, and the reds aren't all that helpfully situated
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 3-3 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 4-2 Si Jiahui

O'Sullivan 3-5 Chang
A six-minute century. Is Ronnie adjusted? Even if he is, it'll be an effort to win from here.
O'Sullivan 2-5 Chang (95-0)
This is so, so good, as I type a lovely red is sent along the cushion with the rest. I don't know where it's going from here, but this is vintage.
O'Sullivan 2-5 Chang (59-0)
This frame is sprinting to a conclusion. Magical.
O'Sullivan 2-5 Chang (39-0)
A nice red, a decent blue; can Ronnie parlay this into the start of something? He works his way towards the black-spot area, which he runs, and in no time at all he's opened everything.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 3-3 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 4-2 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 4-2 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 2-5 Chang
Ronnie misses a black, concedes, and he needs four straight; Chang needs just one, and is rolling.
O'Sullivan 2-4 Chang (15-66)
Until he misses, and goodness me, Ronnie drifts a long, oblique red into right corner ... great pot ... adds a fine blue to the green, a red down the side, and a dropped-in black. He needs two snookers.
O'Sullivan 2-4 Chang (0-60)
Chang goes on, and the way he's playing, it looks more likely he'll get eager, not nervous. But so far, this is very balanced play, and his cue-ball control is excellent.
O'Sullivan 2-4 Chang (0-26)
Using the blue, Chang works away reds, gradually removing those about the pink ... which he glides to middle. So far, he looks in good control of the table and himself. Impressive.
O'Sullivan 2-4 Chang (0-7)
Ronnie goes hard at a poke to left corner and hits it nicely, but it won't drop; he knew it was the only ball he could leave, and he didn't. No matter: he then catches a red heavy, leaving an opener, and there are reds about. But pink and black are tied up.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 3-2 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 4-1 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 4-2 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 2-4 Chang
A missed yellow means 85 and out, but if there's one thing Ronnie doesn't need badly, it's centuries. Let's see if he can build on it.
O'Sullivan 1-4 Chang (61-15)
There's been a really good tempo to this run, and it's more than good enough for the frame.
O'Sullivan 1-4 Chang (32-15)
Ronnie opens balls in his usual preternatural manner and this is much better. It might not take much to get him going; we might come to see this run as a turning point.
O'Sullivan 1-4 Chang (12-15)
The reds are spread but not in especially friendly a manner. Chang thinks he's found a plant, he leaves a ball on the lip, and Ronnie drains it then adds a nice blue to corner.
O'Sullivan 1-4 Chang (5-7)
Chang unloads on a long, straight red – a really tough one, I thought – misses, leaves one for Ronnie ... who undercuts to left corner. He's not at it tonight and a further error, a safety spraying balls all over, offers a starter, gratefully accepted, and plenty more besides.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 3-1 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 4-0 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 3-2 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 1-4 Chang
This is impressive stuff from Chang, on his last-16 ranking-event debut. He's been handed some opportunities, but he's taking them like he's due them. Ronnie will have to play well to win from here.
O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang (31-62)
The final red is just off the side and Chang opts to leave it be, playing for the double. He's on it perfectly, glides it home; pink for 4-1. And it's there!
O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang (31-37)
The table was nicely set and Chang milks it. He really should take the frame at this visit, and so far he's handling the pressure.
O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang (31-26)
Ronnie saunters about picking off loose balls, but he's not building with his usual precision ... then he misses a black off its spot, the second such mess in two frames. Chang is up and at the table very quickly, getting going via rest. The stench of opportunity will be burning his nostrils.
O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang (9-25)
Not this time: he runs out of position and plays safe, then leaves a starter to left-middle ... which Ronnie clicks down, screwing back. The black follows, and he's started his run nicely.
O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang (0-13)
Now then. A safety exchange ends when Ronnie gets a double kiss and this is a big visit for Chang because there are points there for him. A 4-1 lead, and he'll need to collapse or for Ronnie to play no-miss snooker to lose.
We go again...
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 2-1 Zhao Xintong

O'Sullivan 1-3 Chang
Chang is properly into this, and it'll take a good performance from Ronnie to stop him. The second mini-sesh should be a lot of fun.
O'Sullivan 1-2 Chang (47-53)
Calmly and confidently, Chang closes the gap. If he can get on to the last red, sat in the middle of black cush, and not be straight, it should take him to the black ... and it does. The steal is almost his.
O'Sullivan 1-2 Chang (47-8)
But then he undercuts a black off its spot ... and leaves all sorts! Chance for Chang to hit the interval with a two-frame advantage...
O'Sullivan 1-2 Chang (38-0)
Ronnie sticks balls into bags. You may be familiar with the genre.
O'Sullivan 1-2 Chang (7-0)
Chang plays to baulk but sends a red towards left corner; has he got cover? He has not. So Ronnie gets himself away, but what on earth?! He botches a pretty simple pot to right corner, offering a starter to middle and at which Chang goes hard ... but into the jaws, so off goes the Rocket again.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 1-1 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 2-0 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 1-2 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 1-2 Chang
The frame is easily secured, but what's of equal note is how well Chang clears. He's enjoying himself.
O'Sullivan 1-1 Chang (7-65)
Ach, looking to send what looks a simply blue to middle, Chang overcuts, and I'm not sure one can make those errors in this company and escape serious punishment. Is Ronnie on one? Yes he is, and suddenly a healthy lead looks a little anaemic. But a poor positional shot means a nasty mid-distance red, it hits the jaws, and when Chang gets going via rest, he's every chance of forging in front once more.
O'Sullivan 1-1 Chang (0-48)
Chang screws off black into pack, only hitting one red but it's enough for now, and though he might play for pink, he returns for the big dog and looks pretty good here. I guess after you've had the joy of snooker taken from you, especially as a consequence of your own doings, being back feels pretty awesome.
O'Sullivan 1-1 Chang (0-24)
Ronnie rolls up and eventually, Chang decides on the swan-neck to prod home a starter; black and two further red-blacks follow.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 0-1 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 1-0 Si Jiahui

O'Sullivan 1-1 Chang
We're back level, and that looked ominous.
O'Sullivan 0-1 Chang (80-5)
Ronnie secures the frame and sends a message to Chang that the level which won the first won't win many more
O'Sullivan 0-1 Chang (50-5)
It's mad how quickly Ronnie turns a chance to score into a probable frame-winnning visit. This is going to be 1-1.
O'Sullivan 0-1 Chang (12-5)
For the second time today, Ronnie tries taking a red from center to corner and leaves the ball in the jaws, but again Chang can't benefit, rattling an early red into the jaws. That is going to cost him, a gorgeous positional shot on the green opening things for the Rocket.
Around the tables
- Chris Wakelin 0-1 Zhao Xintong
- Kyren Wilson 1-0 Si Jiahui
- Ding Junhui 0-1 Barry Hawkins
O'Sullivan 0-1 Chang
A miscue ends the break, but he's in front.
O'Sullivan 0-0 Chang (13-49)
Chang secures the frame. I'm not sure he'll get as many chances to win another, but he's done enough here/
O'Sullivan 0-0 Chang (13-34)
Ronnie tries to cut from middle to left corner, connects nicely ... but leaves it in the jaws. Chang, though, can only manage a red – he'll have to improve shots like that if he's to compete here – and he's soon punished, the Rocket getting in with balls all over. But when he misses to middle, he offers his young opponent a chance to nose in front.
O'Sullivan 0-0 Chang (1-26)
A lovely blue that takes the white around the angles keeps Chang in business, and this is a confident start. He's a talented player ... and of course as soon as I type that he runs out of position, playing safe ... but has he left a plant? He has indeed and clacks it home before snuggling up to the yellow. It won't be easy to escape and leave everything safe, but he manages it nicely, earning the rare and rich reward of a tap on the table from TMNTPETPUAC.
O'Sullivan 0-0 Chang (0-13)
Ronnie goes at a longun off the break, misses, and leaves the white in mid-table, offering Chang a simple starter with points available. This is exactly the kind of start the youngster needs: though he's won a few final-frame deciders, so is in nick, The Rocket poses a very different challenge.
Our boyz baize
Also Chang
He was banned for three years, reduced to two on account of a guilty plea, for fixing a match and betting on snooker. But let's not forget he was young – he was only 18 then and is 21 now – and who didn't perform foolishness at that age?
Chang
For his part, Chang beat Mark Allen in a decider and anyone able to do that is in serious nick.
Ronnie
The Rocket played well last evening, though he was helped by an opponent enduring a mare. He looks happy with his new cue – biggup Sunny Akani – and happy to be on the baize.

We go again...
A fantastic first session from Mark Williams saw him destroy Shaun Murphy with his unique brand of delicious touch-shots, laser long-potting and tactical creativity. Quickly racking up a 3-0 lead, the last of those frames stolen with a fantastic run of 73, his progression never looked in doubt, and though Murphy reduced the arrears before the interval, he then spurned several opportunities to take frame five – Williams likewise – but once it went to the Welshman, giving him a 5-1 lead, the outcome felt inevitable. Sure enough, he sunk a terrific starter off the Magician's break, converted it into a century, and will meet Elliot Slessor or Ali Carter in the last eight.

Mark Williams beats Shaun Murphy 6-1
A kicking every bit as conclusive as the score suggests. This matchp favours Mark and didn't he milk it brilliantly? Next for him, Slessor or Bingham.
Williams 5-1 Murphy (94-0)
Can he finish with a ton? You bet he can.
Williams 5-1 Murphy (74-0)
A red to corner secures the match, and it's just a pleasure to watch this man, whom we're mandated to enjoy as much as we can for as long as we can. He is one of few true geniuses, seeing the game differently to every other person ever to have played it.
Williams 5-1 Murphy (58-0)
Mark's played beautifully today, and if he maintains his level, he can go one better than last term.
Williams 5-1 Murphy (31-0)
Mark clobbers a starter down right corner, adds the black, and though he'll soon need to go into the pack, this remains a chance to get the match past tense. He goes off the black, the pack not looking likely to be especially responsive, and of course it spills plenty. Shaun will fear he's finished here; rightly so.
Around the tables
- Oliver Lines 3-3 Ali Carter
- Elliot Slessor 4-2 Stuart Bingham
- Neil Robertson 3-2 Mark Selby
Williams 5-1 Murphy
Mark does the necessary, and the way this match has gone, even though he's not as smoking hot as in the first session, it's impossible to see him losing.
Williams 4-1 Murphy (42-50)
Mark clears to blue, and with the black over the bag, if he slides pink to right corner, it's frame over. Shaun looks like his vital organs are fighting each other.
Williams 4-1 Murphy (28-50)
Lovely pot from Mark to gets away, floated into right corner, it brings him on to the yellow, previously safe along the baulk rail, down it goes, and the dish is on!
Williams 4-1 Murphy (25-50)
Unable to disturb it, Mark floats in behind ... but he misses the pot. He's had proper chances to steal this and break the back of the contest, but so far, he's been unable to make anything count.
Williams 4-1 Murphy (25-50)
Shaun promotes a couple of safe reds off the black, they plant nicely along the top cushion ... and he only follows through with the white! But he leaves nowt and the balls are ticky, so he's still favouriote for the frame. Except, as I type, Mark nails a fine starter, and it'd be just like him and just how this match has gone for him to dish from here. There is, though, a red on the side rail...
Williams 4-1 Murphy (4-23)
Shaun chips into right corner but where's the cue-ball going?! Yup, into the left-centre bag that never moves. Again, though, Mark can't punish, but a poor positional shot from Shaun means he has to play safe following his opener – he looks well vexed - and is soon taking on a long red that, if missed, will surely mean the match. But he clips it home well, is on the black, and off he goes.
Williams 4-1 Murphy (0-6)
He does a pretty good job, though, so when Mark tries sending long to the yellow bag, unsuccessfully, there are balls all over for Shaun – who must've feared he'd played his last shot.
Williams 4-1 Murphy (0-1)
Delightful red from Shaun, crumped into right corner, bang into the leather ... only for a cannon to leaver him on nowt; the snooker gods are not with him today. but goodness me, he doesn't need to do that! That being taking on a plant that couldn't be less set, the balls separated by a significant gap, the missing of which necessarily sends claret all over. This could well be curtains ... but, as I type, Mark, perhaps mentally waving at the crowd as he nears the finish line, bodges a cut to middle. He does, though, get fortunate cover on the ball he missed from the yellow leaving Shaun with a headache as seeks to get everything safe.
Around the tables
- Oliver Lines 3-1 Ali Carter

Williams 4-1 Murphy
Shaun flukes the green, goes in-off for extra upset, and Mark then slips it into right-centre. He's just not got going today; meantime, Mark is potting no-look pinks.
Williams 3-1 Murphy (62-34)
Again, Mark misses a chance to finish the frame, then Shaun gets rid of the final red, left close to left-centre, and lays a snooker on the green; the escape is achieved without fuss.
Williams 3-1 Murphy (62-25)
Shaun clears to the final red then goes for his snooker, seeking to preserve the possibility of a free ball, but a poor effort makes things easy for Mark. Then, offfered a pot to the yellow bag next go, he again can't secure the frame - though it looks a matter of time.
Williams 3-1 Murphy (62-2)
A cut-back from the bottom of the pack to make the frame safe ... and Mark can't nudge it home. Shaun returns to the table 59 behind and needing a snooker.
Williams 3-1 Murphy (26-1)
Skillfully and patiently, Mark removes balls, a gorgeous positional shot on a red allowing him to slot blue. There are no demons on this table, and this should be 4-1.

'Absolute wizardry' - Williams clears tough table to steal frame and continue strong start
Video credit: TNT Sports
Williams 3-1 Murphy (7-1)
Mark goes to left corner and misses by a fortnight, leaving Shaun a thin cut to middle; down it goes. But when he fails to drain the green, he knows he's in trouble, and Mark quickly gets going. A major contribution here – and there's one out there - could near-enough mean the match.

Williams 3-0 Murphy (0-77)
Shaun gets in again and secures the frame; he needed that.
Williams 3-0 Murphy (0-62)
A blue to middle means no maxi, but a mid-distance red, diagonal to left corner, is effectively frame-ball ... and he doesn't really get close, though leaves nowt. There are 78 points left, and if Mark steals this, the match will feel five to over.
Williams 3-0 Murphy (0-56)
On he goes. Come on Shaun!
Williams 3-0 Murphy (0-24)
Lovely opening red from Shaun, taken from middle to left corner, and he quickly opens the balls; already, this is a framewinning opportunity, perhaps with a very significant score.

Mark J Williams, oh my complete and utter days. He is playing so well is hilarious and Shaun, who loves this thing of ours as much as anyone, will be equal parts ill and inspired. Believe, he knows what he's seeing.
Williams 2-0 Murphy (49-61)
Mark removes the easy balls but can he get to yellow off pink? The former is just off the right side and the pink'll go to left-middle, the white in and out of baulk; here he goes ... AND THAT IS BEAUTIFUL! THAT IS PERFECT! He not only gets behind it, he nudges it a little closer so he's further off the cushion, sends it down, and this feels like a decisive dish.
Williams 2-0 Murphy (16-61)
But he does get in again and it's black to right corner for the frame ... but he leaves it on the lip! Can Mark sneak a red past it? Of course he can, the touchmaster slipping down another expert's pot. Shaun will be worried, but relieved he stuck the yellow safe-ish.
Williams 2-0 Murphy (0-47)
Shaun will never lack for confidence in his own potting, however comprehensivley he's been dominated. He tidies up loose balls then digs into a difficult-looking pack off the black; is he on one? He is not.
Williams 2-0 Murphy (0-25)
Mark misses a couple of thin contacts then goes for a thicker one, leaving Shaun a simple starter. There are a few loose reds, and this is a chance you feel he must take - it's a long way back from 0-3.

Mark Williams is a total genius. There is nothing else to say.
Williams 1-0 Murphy (91-7)
Mark secures the frame, two more gorgeous touch-shots as he rubs it in, and Shaun has thinking to do.
Williams 1-0 Murphy (43-7)
There's a red on the top rail, not too far from left corner, and is Mark going to try and pot it? Goodness me, he is! Shaun didn't believe it to be on, but he's going to try and scrape off a coat of paint ... and he has! That's an incredible pot, one almost no other player would attempt, and though it doesn't bring position on a colour, the ensuing safety allows him to sink another and tuck in behind the yellow, dead tight. This is terrific stuff; he's giving Shaun a right going-over thus far and the escape sets him off again, the frame almost certain to be his.
Williams 1-0 Murphy (40-7)
Gradually running out of reds and out of position, Mark tries to work balls free off the pack, lands on nothing easy, and sends a nice recovery from left side to the green bag. Even if the break ends here, this is a useful lead, and looking a red with the rest, white near the pink, he asks the ref to pay careful attention, believing a foul to be possible. In the event, it's comfortably avoided, but he misses the pot; Shaun, who isn't in the match yet, can't tidy.
Williams 1-0 Murphy (14-0)
I fear we may be witnessing a pattern. Shaun goes for another longun, commits to it as is his wont, misses, and leaves Mark a straightforward starter. Off he goes again...

Williams 0-0 Murphy (64-0)
Mark secures the frame, but with two snookers required and the remaining reds unhelpfully situated, Shaun returns to the table – perhaps to get his arm going.
Williams 0-0 Murphy (53-0)
With no obvious safety available, Shaun attempts a pot, misses, and a double kiss allows Mark to get going again. This frame ought soon to be over.
Williams 0-0 Murphy (46-0)
Shaun belted Thepchaiya Un-Nooh yesterday, but that was always going to be an open game, and he's the better potter of thee two, excellent though his opponent also is. Mark, though, offers a different challenge and, after being served one of the great dishes in the final frame of last year's final, will feel he's on a redemption mission. meantime, he runs out of position to plays a typically testing safety back to the baulk rail.
Williams 0-0 Murphy (13-0)
Shaun clips a red en route back to baulk, leaving the white in open space above baulk; this allows Mark to send a starter down left corner with plenty of points there for him.
