Selt was up against it as he was 5-2 down against Ross Muir in a best-of-11 International Championship qualifying match in Leicester.
Trailing 51-12 in the eighth frame, Selt missed a long red to the corner to bring Muir back to the table. But to Muir's surprise, he did not need to play on.
Selt walked up to Muir and offered his hand to concede the contest, despite there being seven reds left on the table (a maximum of 56 points) along with the coloured balls (27 points).
Muir even gestured to the table to seemingly show Selt there were still enough points remaining for him to win.
Selt did not change his mind, though, and shook hands with Muir and then the referee before packing up his cue.
Selt is likely to be fined for his actions, with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association rules stating: "A player shall not concede a frame in any game, or match unless any player requires penalty points.

- Hendry recalls torturous decline that led to retirement
"Any breach of this rule shall be regarded as unsporting conduct by the player concerned."
Selt was fined ÂŁ10,000 and given a three-month suspended ban following "rude and aggressive" behaviour at the 2024 Saudi Arabia Masters.
Neil Robertson was fined ÂŁ250 at the World Snooker Championship earlier this year when he conceded a frame against Pang Junxu when he was 47 points behind with 51 on.
Robertson was told by referee Terry Camilleri that he was conceding a frame that he was mathematically able to win.Â

But Robertson thought that there was a 57-point gap instead of 47, before seemingly realising he had not accounted for the 10 points he scored in the frame.
"Ah I miscalculated the score," said Robertson. "Sorry. Yeah I didn't mean it."
Elsewhere, veteran Jimmy White moved into the second round of qualifying for the Scottish Open with a 4-2 win over Leone Crowley in Leicester.
White, who was granted permission by the WPBSA to wear trainers due to an ankle injury, will next face Liu Hongyu on Wednesday evening, chasing a spot in the last 64.
