THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR 'NEW SUPERSTAR' WU
Wu Yize stunned John Higgins 10-6 to take a much-deserved first ranking title at the International Championship in front of his home crowd.
The 22-year-old was already on a fantastic week going into the finals to face Higgins, who would try to become the third player to win a title above 50.
Wu came out early to take the first two frames, but Higgins would take the third with a century break.
The Chinese player was undeterred and produced two straight tons to make it 4-1, but the Glaswegian came back in the late stages to make it 5-4 going into the break.
Despite Higgins' late push, Wu was excellent straight into the second session as he immediately extended his lead to 8-4.
The Wizard of Wishaw did his best to pick up two more frames, but Wu would prove to be unstoppable today as he tied up his winning frame with a century visit to make it a stunning 14 over this tournament.
After disappointments at the English and Scottish Opens, it was Wu's day as he lifted the trophy to cheers from his family and country.
A warm Higgins congratulated Wu despite being disappointed at his result, and called Wu a 'new superstar' after a 'fantastic' performance.
Wu now jumps up the world rankings into 13th, and will secure himself a seeded place in the upcoming UK Championship.

WU YIZE TAKES DECISIVE FIRST TITLE! HIGGINS 6-10 WU
Wu plays a flawless red into the middle pocket to pull cheers from the crowd, and a black after that prompts him to shake his fist in a small celebration as the 22-year old knows he's done it!
The superstar pushes on to secure himself a century break as well for the cherry on top and it is all smiles from him as Higgins comes out to congratulate a phenomenal performance.

HIGGINS 6-9 WU (0-63*)
Wu is slowly but surely earning this frame. He is two pots away from being a ranking title-holder!
HIGGINS 6-9 WU (0-39*)
Wu will need a cannon at some point as he slowly picks off all the loose reds. It is perhaps now as he finds a nice line on the blue, he goes through the middle and knocks out two very nice reds.
HIGGINS 6-9 WU (0-24*)
Another fantastic long red from Wu to start off his second shot at the trophy. He then plays a bold black with his non-dominant hand and it's clean.
HIGGINS 6-9 WU
Pink into the middle pocket, and Higgins needs one more red and colour for the frame. He lines up the pink once more and he punishes Wu for that little wobble.
It is perhaps still too far to call the comeback, but Higgins will up the pressure on the 22-year-old with every frame he can take now.
HIGGINS 5-9 WU (41*-20)
All or nothing now and Higgins knows it. It is textbook so far on this break and the table looks good.
HIGGINS 5-9 WU (17*-20)
It's a series of fine shots from Wu, but he fumbles a rest shot and Higgins will be delighted for another chance.
He pots the missed red, then a spot of luck as he ends up on the blue for the middle pockets he has favoured so much over this tournament.
HIGGINS 5-9 WU (16*-0)
It's not over yet for Higgins, who came back five frames against Mark Selby to win the 2025 World Open. He proves it with a stellar opening red from a cue ball on the baulk cushion.
But he misses a red into the left-corner pocket and Wu gets a chance on a table that Higgins has opened for him!
HIGGINS 5-9 WU
The two players dance around the table, but Higgins doesn't defend quite well enough and Wu finds a way through. The cue ball threatens to roll into the right-corner pocket for a scary second but it stays out to ensure Wu the frame.
It's crunch time now for the Wizard of Wishaw.
HIGGINS 5-8 WU (16*-68)
This frame is all but over, but Wu suddenly rolls the cue ball in! He goes around the houses off his shot on the black, but then his cue ball bounces off the yellow and brown into the pocket.
Higgins has a quick think in his chair, and decides to take the gamble. He needs three snookers from Wu, but he will do his best to stop him from going one away from the frame.
HIGGINS 5-8 WU (9-59*)
Wu is back on the break, there's another call for silence from the crowd but he seems undeterred. It's superb control from the 22-year-old and he finds himself just a red and a colour away from 9-5.
HIGGINS 5-8 WU (9*-34)
Higgins drops a red in along the side cushion but it's not a kind shot on the black. Higgins misses it to stop his campaign on 9.
HIGGINS 5-8 WU (0-34*)
The two trade safeties, but then Higgins leaves Wu an opportunity for a long red. The Chinese player's long game has yet to let him down much in this match and it's in.
Wu gets a touch unlucky yet again as his cue ball goes a little out of position, and his only option is a tricky red to the middle pocket. The pink also sits threateningly near to the red, and this time it's just too difficult and Higgins comes out of his chair.
HIGGINS 5-8 WU (0-21*)
Long red from Wu to kick off the 14th frame. He is showing no signs of being fazed by Higgins' good showing before the break.
But he gets unlucky off yet another bold shot, the cue ball hits the pack and fails to give him a clean line.

THE MASTER STANDS FIRM

HIGGINS 5-8 WU
Higgins isn't bowing out yet as he looks determined on the table now. He pots a red, pulling his cue ball through the rest of the reds then up for a perfect strike on the blue into the middle pocket. A few more to take this frame, and he gets himself back into a better position against Wu.
The Glaswegian has to be feeling a good deal of relief going into the interval as he finally secures his first frame from Wu in this session.
HIGGINS 4-8 WU (34*-4)
Higgins is back on now with a chance to take his first frame since the break. It has to be laser-focused from the master if he wants to stop Wu's slow but sure march towards the trophy.
It's looking good for Higgins, but he gets distracted by the cannon and doesn't pot the black!
But he picks up a fantastic long red to put himself back into this frame.
HIGGINS 4-8 WU (0-4*)
Higgins lines up another shot on the right-corner pocket - it's no good for the Wizard. It's a crucial frame for him and that pocket just isn't doing him any favours.
Wu up onto the table again to pot the chance, but he fluffs a left-handed shot into the same pocket seconds later.
