Welcome back to our live text coverage from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield with another stacked schedule of quarter-final action at the World Championship. The 'Class of '92' are in force again on Wednesday with Ronnie O'Sullivan resuming his clash against Si Jiahui, while Mark Williams got the better of John Higggins in a titanic battle. Judd Trump v Luca Brecel will play to a finish.

Despite not having played competitively in three months and returning with an untried cue, Ronnie O'Sullivan is through to yet another semi-final, seeing off Si Jiahui 13-9.
By the time the youngster began to believe he could win, the lead was too great and, as he has throughout the tournament, O'Sullivan found something every time he needed it. He will, though, need to go up several levels to beat Zhao Xintong.
Wednesday's other match looked set to be a classic, Judd Trump and Luca Brecel beginning the session locked at 8-8. But Trump made centuries in the first two frames – his 103rd and 104th of the season, a new record – and maintained his high level to win the next three.
His last-four opponent is Mark Williams who, earlier in the day, beat John Higgins in a final-frame decider.

He'd not played for three months and also changed his cue; that's how good he is. He meets Zhao Xintong next, while Si will feel he could've done better.

There are two reds under the pink; they're the only impediment to Ronnie reaching yet another Crucible semi. Even at 60%, he's still nails to beat. And, as I type, he gently moves off black on to the aforementioned pair of reds; "Delightful, there's never been a player who sees a shot as early as Ronnie," rhapsodises Fouldsy. This is over.

Si stretches across the table to slot a yellow ... and flops on to it when the ball stays out! He knows this could be curtains, and it'd be typical of how Ronnie is at the moment were he to put the match away.

Si hasa lot of talent, but looks a very similar player to the one that lost to Luca Brecel in the 2023 semi, in amazing fashion; he's a blazing potter but not loads else, so needs to be playing well to win matches. However, he's taking these balls very nicely ... so far.

If Si loses this, he'll have regrets – he's had a lot of chances, but neither his technical game nor his mental game aren't quite ready for the kind of pressure playing Ronnie at the Cruce necessarily entails. Still, though, what a clearance from the boy Ronald.

Ronnie looks a long one up and down – it's almost the full length of the side rail, close to it ... AND WHAT A POT! That might just tip the match irretrievably, though green to brown won't be easy ... but TMNTPETPUAC makes it look easy! Again, he raises it when he needs to!

Si's break comes to an end when he runs out of position, then a few shots later he takes a wild thrash at a pot – that's one reason it's hard to see him winning – misses by miles, almost flukes it, and when it stays on the lip, Ronnie gets going. This is the kind of clearance that's got him this far, finding it within himself to punish an opponent's errors. But as I type, he misses an awkward red to right corner but leaves nowt, and the frame remains in the balance!
Judd Trump beats Luca Brecel 13-8
Amazing behaviour from an amazing genius. Judd was in trouble at 5-7, but he won eight of the next nine frames and when he plays as he did, he's far too good for everyone. He meets Mark J Williams in the last four, while Luca goes home, hopefully feeling good anbout himself – he's given us a(nother) great tournament.
O'Sullivan 11-9 Si (9-54)
It's not felt like Si believes – really believes – he can win this match. But he's surely seen enough of Ronnie tonight to revise that; the eway he's playing certainly suggests that. Oh, and Luca misses brown to middle! Judd needs that, blue and pink for the match...

On table two, a rash shot from Luca offers Judd a chance to clinch the match – but there's a red on the side, with blue and black chilling opposite. So he sets himself for a double, and the position is ideal ... but the ball won't drop. Meantime, Si accumulates.

We wondered earlier and we're wondering it again: is this Si's night? He flukes an unlikely plant and lands on the yellow, dispatched via rest, which takes him up the table; can he make the opportunity count? The black's tied up, but the pink is free as a bird.

The balls are pretty nicely spread now, "but not for the next shot," reckons Fouldsy ... then Ronnie glides from centre to left corner, only to miss a much easier ball. Pressure is mounting and he doesn't seem to be enjoyoing the experience, but gets lucky, leaving nowt.

A good safety from Ronnie leaves Si in trouble near the baulk rail, but even so, who expected him to hit the brown? He plays a better shot next go and gets the points back when The Rocket misses a thin contact.

This frame is colossal: if Ronnie takes it he's almost home, but if Si does, it'll get really nervy. And again, it's Si who pots the first red – after another error from Ronnie – but he lands on nowt, then a futher mistake – this time a pot missed by weeks – leaves nothing. So far, the interval seems to have changed nothing

This is a really good break from Si, who makes the frame safe; he needed to win this session and he has. Ronnie returns to the table needing three snookers.

Again, Si gets in at the start of a frame, breaks the pack ... and all he's on is one long to the yellow bag. Last time he attempted similar, he fluked it into the middle; this time he hits the jaw. No matter: he's soon left the thinnest of cuts to left corner, striking hard to force it home, but with a red over middle he must bag the blue he's about to send long .. and that's a gorgeous pot! Can he keep focused enough to make this visit count?

Ronnie hasn't got going tonight, and as we said below, he's got form for beating himself in this kind of situation. I know narrative says Luca blitzed him in the 2023 quarter-final comeback, but he was given a very hefty push – he'd been handed a couple of frames before he got going. Both Si and Luca are, when at it, phenomenal potters. That gives them a chance in any match against any opponent – even the two greats of game they face tonight.

Judd Trump and Luca Brecel, two incendiary potters and former champions in great form, each of whom has been on the cusp of disaster before battling back such that we're now level at 8-8. I've not a clue what's going to happen next, but I can't wait to find out.

This looks a lock: Ronnie O'Sullivan leads Si Jiahui 10-6, with just three frames required for victory. However, he's lost from precisely this position to Peter Ebdon, Anthony McGill and Luca Brecel and isn't playing so well it's inconceivable. If Si hits a streak – and he's streaky – I'd not be entirely shocked if Ronnie helped along by almost beating himself.

2019 winner Trump leads 2023 victor Brecel 5-3 in the battle of the former champions.

'I just kept playing Tom Jones over and over'
Mark Williams was feeling drained when he arrived at the Crucible, but revealed a secret weapon that kept him in the zone...
"Balls of steel!" he joked. "It was such a tough shot [on the blue]. It was probably thinner than it looked. It could've gone in-off, I could've over-cut it. I've just gone for it full-blooded and landed straight on the pink and black.
"There wasn't one bit of nerves or shaking; I don't really get that. I just don't know any different, to be honest.
"I didn't think John was going to miss. From 12-8 to 12-12, I'm sat there and haven't done anything wrong really. I was thinking: 'what can I do?'
"I felt drained this morning because we had two tough sessions [on Tuesday]. I just kept playing Delilah and A Boy From Nowhere by Tom Jones over and over when I was getting ready. I was still playing and singing them in the dressing room just to try and stay with it because it's tough out there, especially the older you get.
"I've got to enjoy it because I don't know how many times I'm going to keep coming back here."
'Every credit to him'
John Higgins was as gracious as ever, despite his heartbreaking defeat.
"I had the chance on the blue," he said. "It was difficult, and you're struggling to see the pockets at the end of the game.
"He potted a great blue, pink, black, so every credit to him. He's a great champion.
"I still felt good going into the last frame. Mark had a great pot and I thought he would do what he always does. Then, I had a chance, but I could only make 30.
"Then, I made a bad safety when I was in control of the frame. I got my chance, but I couldn't take it.
"I've had a good season, the atmosphere out there was incredible, a standing ovation walking in. There's no better place to play, win or lose."
Williams wins
All credit to the three-time world champion, who led 12-8 before he was taken the distance.
But as he has done so many times, the 50-year-old held himself together to deliver under the most intense pressure.
Williams has now won five of his six meetings with Higgins at the Crucible.
His reward is a showdown with either Judd Trump or Luca Brecel in the last four.
