Judd Trump edged past David Grace 5-2, while Shaun Murphy claimed a whitewash win over Liam Graham on the opening day of the 2025 German Masters in Berlin.
The three-time German Masters champion survived an early scare by losing two of the opening three frames against Grace.
But Trump ultimately fought back in a series of attritional, lengthy frames, before making the last 32 courtesy of a 73 break.
The World No. 1, who won the title last year by beating China's Si Jiahui 10-5 in the final, will take on Joe O’Connor on Wednesday, after the 29-year-old eased past Stephen Maguire 5-1.
Murphy, who was returning to the table for the first time since winning the Masters eight days ago, claimed a 5-0 victory over Graham to set up a second-round match with Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.
"I've had just a couple of days off this week and really enjoyed the victory," Murphy said. "Those Triple Crown wins don't come around every year. However, I've just had a couple of days then straight back to work and put the hours in.
"I didn't want to come here, after the Lord Mayor's Show, to this venue that I love so much and lose. I'm delighted with the victory and now we march on."
Thepchaiya will be no pushover, having inflicted a 5-0 whitewash defeat on Stuart Bingham.
