Scottish Open LIVE: World No. 17 Chris Wakelin takes Scottish Open title after superb 9-2 victory over young sensation Chang Bingyu

Chang Bingyu is through to the biggest match of his life, and only Chris Wakelin stands in between him and a first ranking title. Chang has shocked veteran stars all week, shutting down Mark Allen 6-1 just yesterday, but Wakelin has been in fine form himself and held Matthew Selt off in a thrilling 6-5 semi-final. The winner in Edinburgh will lift the Stephen Hendry Trophy and take home £100,000.

WAKELIN LANDS SCOTTISH OPEN TITLE
Chris Wakelin waltzed to the biggest title of his professional career as he completed an emphatic 9-2 victory over Chang Bingyu.
The 2023 Shoot-Out champion reeled off three successive frames in the final session of the tournament to land a win that pushes him back inside the world's top 16.
Things could not have started better for the 33-year-old, who showed no sign of nerves, despite the prize at stake.
He eased to the first frame of the night, aided by a superb break of 50, despite an untidy table in which heavy scoring was tricky.
That opened up a five-frame cushion, meaning Chang needed to respond quickly.
He was unable to respond though; a Wakelin 67 this time putting him on the back foot and needing snookers - only to be put in behind the yellow himself.
The resulting foul led to a concession, and a mountain to climb.
And Wakelin was in no mood for any let up, completing the rout in near perfect fashion, as he put up a majestic break of 104 to complete a famous 9-2 success.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT"
Wakelin has now joined the TNT Sports team. "I can't believe it. I'm genuinely so thrilled. To have my fiance and daughter here as well, and my coach Linda...she has been an absolute superstar.
"She's been there through thick and thin. She turns up every single morning and gets me through the day. I've got so many people that I can thank.
"I can't believe it as much as anyone else."
"A LANDMARK MOMENT"
TNT Sports' Alan McManus: "I said he was a tough guy to beat before this final started and he proved it. That's what you've got to do.
"It'll be a landmark moment of his career, obviously, to win the Stephen Hendry trophy. Scotland will be a special, special place for him now.
"He's proved himself to be a top player. He's hit the crossbar a couple of times, but he put the match away brilliantly today, from 2-1 behind, let's not forget!"
ANALYSIS FROM JIMMY WHITE
"He played so solid throughout the tournament. He had a great work out with Matt Selt yesterday; produced the goods at the last frame to get over the line 6-4.
"Today, from two-each, he was by far the better player and deserved the win."
WONDERFUL SCENES
Wakelin looks close to tears as he lifts the Stephen Hendry trophy, and that's followed by him being joined by his daughter, Mia, who was one yesterday, and his partner as well.
There are huge smiles all around the auditorium, and rightly so.
MORE FROM WAKELIN
"It's been such a strange year; making it to the quarters of the worlds and semis in Saudi. Other than that, I haven't done anything!
"It's so strange, finding myself in the later stages of the tournament, because this season's been hard. There's so many good young players now. Obviously the guys who have been doing it for 20, 30 years are still at the top of the game as well!
"You've got to be incredibly special to break through nowadays!"
"DEFINITELY ONE TO WATCH OUT FOR"
"It doesn't get any better than this, right? But I just want to say a massive well done to Bingyu. He's an absolute credit to the sport.
"He's had some issues over the last couple of years which I don't think he had anything to do with. To see that he's making his way up the rankings so quickly...he's a phenomenal talent. Definitely one to watch out for."
AND NOW FOR CHRIS WAKELIN
"Who'd have thought it? When we arrived up here on Sunday, I had no expectations at all, given how the last few weeks have been. We've had some issues at home.
"My only objective this week was to turn up, to literally walk in the building and get my cue out. To be the winner is just magic."
CHANG ON A SENSATIONAL WEEK
"I would like to say that this has been a very big confidence boost, to beat those top players [this week].
"I would like to say thank you to everyone in the audience. You have been brilliant all week."
"TONIGHT WAS JUST NOT MY NIGHT"
Speaking through a translator, Chang gives his post-match interview. "I didn't think that I could make this far and I didn't expect that I could play this final.
"I'm quite happy because I made big progress.
"Tonight was just not my night. My opponent played extremely well. I just couldn't leave him any chances to let him go in."
CHRIS WAKELIN IS THE SCOTTISH OPEN CHAMPION
What a moment! What a moment for Chris Wakelin! After shaking hands with his opponent, the World No. 17 shows his appreciation to the audience as he lifts his arms aloft. Mega stuff.
WAKELIN 9-2 CHANG (112-13)
There are enough points on the table to finish with a century, too. That would be the cherry on the icing on the cake!
A blue off the final red takes him to 77. Even a mobile phone going off in the audience does not distract him.
Indeed, Wakelin clears up the colours for a majestic 104. What a performance. Cool and calm as you like.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (*79-13)
Four reds left on the table. A lead of 46. The winning line is approaching. He pots one into the right corner with the rest. The next shot, on the black, is for the title.
Down it goes. A look at his face suggests he does not think the job is done yet. But a red to the left middle is followed by Wakelin dropping his head towards his chest in a wonderful sign of emotion.
He even adds the green and gives a huge puff of his cheeks. He's home.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (*52-13)
This has been composed and dominant from Wakelin. He just keeps going, reaching 37 before going into the cluster of five reds below the pink spot off the black.
That, once more, opens them up nicely.
He picks a red to the yellow pocket, screwing back for the black, and is now, surely, just minutes away from glory.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (*28-13)
And he starts this visit in much better fashion. A good opening red, followed by a blue into the right middle, off which he gently runs the white down the table into the pack.
That shot opens things up nicely, and he's on the black too. Time for some heavy scoring? His heart will surely be beating very quickly now.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (8-13)
Wakelin returns to the table to register a break of eight. Only eight, perhaps, but it's followed by a decent safety.
Chang thinks he can pot is way out of it, but misses. And now, the World No. 17 will have another chance.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (0-13)
Chris Wakelin, then, appears to have nine fingers on the Stephen Hendry trophy. Can Chang Bingyu give him at least something to think about?
There's a chance at the start of frame 11 as he clips a red into the right middle and follows with the blue. That gives him position on the reds. We've seen him register some huge breaks from positions like this so far this week. He needs another now.
It is not to be though. A fairly regulation black to the right corner is hit with all kind of conviction, but bounces away from the pocket.
WAKELIN 8-2 CHANG (72-25)
The tables have turned now, as Wakelin sets up a horrible snooker. The cue ball is tight against the yellow, with the red the other side of it.
Chang misses his attempt to escape, and, with that foul added to Wakelin's total, the 23-year-old concedes.
Wakelin is one frame away from the title!

WAKELIN 7-2 CHANG (68-25)
Escape Wakelin does though, off two cushions and hitting the red full ball.
Chang cleverly his the red off the jaws of the pocket, putting the white behind the black. Another snooker to wriggle out of, and again, done so comfortably.
WAKELIN 7-2 CHANG (68-25)
The frame is near enough dead now. An excellent pot from Wakelin takes him 67 in front with 59 on, before he pushes the green safe.
Chang will continue. He has to. And he opens with an excellent long red to the left corner. That is followed by the black, and two more reds, each with a black.
Down to the final red now. That one is pushed against the left cushion, a few inches down from the middle pocket. The 23-year-old pushes it down in front of the brown, but the cue ball is behind the pink. Not an easy escape.
