NEIL ROBERTSON BEATS SHAUN MURPHY 4-1
He meets Ross Muir next.
murphy 1-3 ROBERTSON (9-57)
Shaun escapes then shortly afterwards nails a beauty to left corner. Alas, he misses a mid-distancer to left corner and soon after one to right, a flick off the black leaving everything should Neil care to pot it.
murphy 1-3 ROBERTSON (1-43)
Neil refuses a red to the yellow bag – I thought he'd take that on to try and finish the match, though as Mark Allen said earlier, the right shot is the right shot no matter the score. But when Shaun finds a plant then lays a snooker, I bet he regrets it. Not for long: he coaxes a red from middle to left corner then tucks in behind the yellow.
murphy 1-3 ROBERTSON (0-21)
Neil gets away to left corner but soon finds himself attacking black from on the side rail; he sends down a beauty, and that was a pressure-pot nailed; frame and match might soon be his.
murphy 1-3 ROBERTSON
Shaun is never going to give it away. A terrific ton, and he's in the match, just about.
murphy 0-3 ROBERTSON (113-0)
"Typical Murphy break. Striding round the table, cueing well," says Nealf, and the ton is soon applauded.
murphy 0-3 ROBERTSON (68-0)
Shaun does a good job of working his way through the balls, breaking the packs a second time from the bottom, off the black. The split isn't great but should be good enough, and very soon there's claret everwhere. This has been a really good contribution.
murphy 0-3 ROBERTSON (13-0)
Nice starter from Shaun, who's never for lying down, and a booming green takes him up the table and he's about the black spot, the path to both corners clear. He'll know he probably has to make something significant here because the break will make him move balls about, such that if he misses, it might be curtains.
murphy 0-3 ROBERTSON
It's not easy to see how Shaun gets back into this, never mind wins.
murphy 0-2 ROBERTSON (0-47)
Both of these, likewise Mark Selby, can play as well as they ever have, then miss a ball you don't expect them to. Two more red-blacks, then one sent long to the green ... and it's immediately clear it's not going in. No matter. Shaun, whoi's frustrated, misses long to the yellow, and given what he's left, I think this'll be 3-0.
murphy 0-2 ROBERTSON (0-24)
Shaun's break brings a red up towards the middle and Neil sends it down, adds a black, then another two red-blacks.
AROUND THE TABLES
Xiu Si 0-4 Barry Hawkins
murphy 0-2 ROBERTSON
Shaun's under a bit of pressure now.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (37-62)
Neil clears the reds and a really nice brown when under a little pressure means he's ok the yellow – but straight. And shonuff, the green is now harder than he'd like, a cut across the table ... and that is beautiful. His touch is gloroous, and the frame is his.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (37-36)
Shaun misses to the middle and Neil gets to work. This should be the frame.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (37-30)
Aha! Has Shaun inadvertently left a plant? He might've, and Neil fancies it ... rightly so. He sends it down but lands on nowt, and we're back playing safety.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (37-29)
"That's a terrible shot, it really is," says Fouldsy, "Don't know if he's got any other cues in that case!"; naturally Shaun responds with a very nice recovery-pot to middle. He can't, though, sustain the run, so sits down looking quizzical.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (9-29)
A poor shot and a cannon he didn't want eventually brings the break to an end, Neil forced to play safe shortly afterwards, but Shaun responds with a fine red to the corner and hell fancy himself for plenty here.
murphy 0-1 ROBERTSON (0-21)
Shaun changes his cue, then Neil slots a nice starter to middle, quickly settling into rhythm.
