Anders Fannemel soars to victory in Sapporo

Ski jump world record holder Anders Fannemel was a comfortable victor at the latest World Cup meeting in Sapporo.

The Norwegian registered jumps of 143.5m and 136.5m to score 265.9 points – 5.6 points clear of compatriot Johann Andre Forfang, who finished on the podium for the second time this season.
Fannemel said: “I’m really happy. I had two good jumps and it was a great improvement from yesterday.
“I also had a bit better wind than yesterday. Now we are looking forward to the home competitions in Norway.”

Delight over more than third place

Japan’s Noriaki Kasai celebrated the birth of his daughter with a third-place finish, after jumps of 138.5m and 134m.
Kasai said: “This is an incredible day for me. I became father of a girl and then this third place. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Overall World Cup leader Peter Prevc of Slovenia had to settle for sixth place with 248.6 points, missing out on a podium finish for only the second time this season.
