Althaus leads first-ever sweep of women’s World Cup ski jumping podium

Germany’s Katharina Althaus claimed her first World Cup ski jumping title as she led her team-mates to a historic clean sweep of the podium in Ljubno.

It’s the first time in women’s World Cup history that three skiers from the same nation have dominated the standings.

Althaus, who is enjoying a breakout season, upgraded her bronze medal from 24 hours previously to move to fourth on the overall World Cup standings, ahead of next week’s Olympic test event in PyeongChang.

Olympic champion Carina Vogt, who will defend her world title in Finland later this month, finished just behind the 20-year old, while Svenja Wuerth took bronze.

Norway’s Maren Lundby, second in the overall rankings, finished just outside the podium places while World Cup leader, Japan’s Sara Takanashi, was absent in Slovenia.
