Yarnold, a gold medallist in Sochi 2014, won her first race of the new season in Lake Placid in December but experienced dizziness which kept her out of the next event in Calgary.
However, Yarnold came back with a solid performance in Germany and finished with a time of 1:58.69, some 0.04 seconds behind winner Maria Orlova of Russia.
Yarnold was able to hold off the challenge of Orlova's compatriot Elena Nikitina who came in third.
"I'm pretty chuffed. I've raced here five times and never got on the podium. That was the aim and I finished on the podium," said Yarnold.
Elsewhere, fellow Britons Rose McGrandle finished eighth and Laura Deas tenth.
