Team GB's Matt Weston and Tabitha Stoecker win gold in mixed team skeleton at Milano Cortina Winter Olympics

Team GB added to their medal tally as Matt Weston and Tabitha Stoecker won gold in the skeleton mixed team on Sunday night. Weston got Great Britain off the mark at the Games with victory in the men's skeleton and he picked up a second medal in the mixed event alongside Stoecker. Marcus Wyatt and Freya Tarbit came fourth. Team GB won a third gold medal of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, with victory in the mixed skeleton for Matt Weston and Tabitha Stoecker.

Having dominated to win the men’s skeleton two days ago - setting four track records in the process - Weston teamed up with Stoecker to win the mixed event by 0.17 seconds.

The pair set another track record, overhauling two German teams to clock a time of 1:59.36, as Weston made more history to become the first British athlete to win two gold medals at a single Winter Games.

He is also Team GB's joint most decorated Winter Olympian, level with fellow skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold, each with two gold medals.

"It's so exciting," Olympic gold medallist and TNT Sports pundit Amy Williams said in excitement.

"You're just on the edge of your seat, waiting. It's just so exciting, we've just gone and won another gold medal! How incredible."

It was a thrilling finale, as Weston had an uphill battle following Stoecker's run, with Team GB trailing by 0.3s.

"I had trust and confidence in him," Williams said. "You know he's going to make up time, because he did that in every one of his four Olympic runs two days ago. That feels like a lifetime ago.

"He's going to have two gold medals around his neck, Tabby is going to have one. She was ranked fourth in the women's race, so how incredible for her to now come home to Great Britain with a gold medal around her neck from a team race.

"And Matt coming home, [the medals] are going to be jangling next to each other. He's got two. Those smiles aren't going to leave their faces. My cheeks are aching! Incredible, incredible."

Axel Jungk and Susanne Kreher waited in anticipation as Weston and Stoecker took to the track for their run. They had to settle for a silver medal, with their compatriots Christopher Grotheer and Jacqueline Pfeifer taking bronze.

Marcus Wyatt and Freya Tarbit of Team GB were in third place, but consequently dropped to fourth after Weston and Stoecker's run, which nudged them out of the podium positions.

"It's super important to come to the Games and do well [in skeleton]," Wyatt said.

"Even though the last couple of days haven't quite been our way, the future looks great and this should secure the medals in the next four, eight, twelve [Olympics] and beyond."

Tarbit added: "Two gold medals for GB skeleton is something to be really, really proud of, in the mixed team debut too, it's great to come away with gold."

Team GB are now up to 12th in the medal table with three, all of which are gold.

Earlier on Sunday, Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale won gold in the snowboard cross mixed team event - the first time Britain has ever won an Olympic title on the snow.
