Christie may be the star of Team GB's short track operation but Gilmartin has seen it all with her friend and former housemate.
She was by Christie's side in Sochi four years ago as the Scot's medal dreams died in such public fashion, and supported her through the emotional turmoil which followed. But now she is aiming to make headlines of her own.
Gilmartin, spotted as a skating talent at the age of 11 at a friend's birthday party, won a gold and silver at the European Championships in 2016 and then in 2017, won back-to-back World Cup bronzes, in the 1500m in Dresden and the 1000m in Minsk.
She reached the quarter-finals of the 500m in Sochi, only making the heats of the 1500m, but harbours real hope of reaching an A final in PyeongChang - and springing a surprise from there.
She told Eurosport in the summer of 2017:
