England and Sale Sharks have been without one of their most influential players since the Rugby World Cup concluded last October. Flanker Tom Curry underwent a hip operation and spoke of his own uncertainty around when he will be able to play competitive rugby again. "I still don't really know, I'm taking it day by day," said the openside flanker.

Six Nations quick fire questions with O’Driscoll as France backed to win

England flanker Tom Curry is unsure when he will return to competitive rugby after undergoing hip surgery.
The Sale Sharks forward hasn’t featured since England’s win over Argentina in the bronze medal match at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in October.
Curry then had an operation on his hip, addressing “arthritic change in the hip and tears to the labrum and cartilage”, a combination that he described as “a bit of a car crash.”
The procedure ruled him out of the 2024 Six Nations and has left the 25-year-old himself uncertain about a return date.
“In terms of coming back to play, I still don’t really know. It’s day by day,” Curry told Sale Sharks TV.
“The next month is just taking it day by day. Every week it gets better and better. The tough thing is thinking too far ahead and that’s why I need to take each day as it comes.
“Every day I’ll give it 100% and be really grateful that I can do this and then we’ll see.
“If you take a step and your hip feels bad, your mood goes down. If you do that and your hip feels good, your mood goes up. So it is about trying to get rid of all that stuff and keeping it as simple as possible.”
Sam Underhill has started England’s first two matches of the Six Nations at openside flanker in Curry’s absence.
Steve Borthwick’s side earned two narrow victories, beating Italy by three points in Rome before edging Wales 16-14 at Twickenham on Saturday.
Next up for England is a trip to face Scotland at Murrayfield on February 24, when they will aim to end a three-match losing streak in the Calcutta Cup against their old rivals.
