Scotland 85-0 USA result - Scots crush America in Quilter Nations Series opener with Darcy Graham and Jamie Dobie notching trebles

Darcy Graham and Jamie Dobie scored three tries each as Scotland ran in 13 in all as they crushed United States at Murrayfield in a record victory.

Dylan Richardson started things off and then Duhan van der Merwe marked his 50th appearance with his first of two tries.

Graham and Dobie then got on the board with the latter's try a brilliant one created by one of a number of buccaneering runs from impressive debutant Liam McConnell.

Further ties from this pair plus Van der Merwe left the half-time score at 45-0 and though America were better after the break it took Graham just four minutes to cap his hat-trick.

Dobie, who moved to Graham's spot on the right wing for the last half-hour as George Horne came on and played scrum-half, completed his treble six minutes from time with skipper Stafford McDowall, Kyle Rowe, Oliver Smith and Horne also touching down.

Scotland next play New Zealand at Murrayfield on Saturday in their second Quilter Nations Series tie.

It will get a lot harder against the All Blacks next but a good start to the Autumn International fixtures for Scotland nonetheless.

Horne with another good kick extends the lead further.

He had just been awarded the TNT Sports man of the match award and he puts an exclamation point on that as van der Merwe's line break sets up Rowe who then tees up the second-half winger to race down the touchline and score his third try.

This gives America a late opportunity to get on the scoreboard.

An easy kick for Horne this time.

A fantastic line break from van der Merwe and he unselfishly passes inside to Rowe and, even more unselfishly, he gives inside to Horne who runs under the posts.

Horne adds a second conversion from as many kicks.

Neat hands from Horne, McConnell and Thompson set up the skipper to plough over the line.

And maybe he should have looked for a team-mate 10m out as three Americans converged to stop him.

But Dobie gets over to put a tackle on the left winger and he coughs up the ball.

A good kick from Horne this time splits the uprights.

Lightning quick hands see the ball spread wide to Dobie on the right wing and he feeds Rowe inside who dives over.

A big stop from the American captain who gets down low and stops the ball coming out at the breakdown.

He will be happy with his three tries.

But a huge forward pass from Hilsenbeck gives Scotland a scrum in a central area just outside the 22.

Thompson is on kicking duties now, after Hastings was withdrawn at half time, and he hooks his first kick.
