WALES MISERY COMPOUNDED AS ITALY WIN IN ROME
Wales slipped to their 14th straight defeat, losing in Italy for the first time in 18 years, as the hosts ran out 22-15 victors in the Six Nations clash at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
Italy dominated the likely wooden-spoon decider from the beginning, playing a far smarter and cleaner game on the slippery surface under heavy rain.
Tommaso Allan’s perfect kicking in the first half gave them control, with Ange Capuozzo diving in the corner to touch down Alessandro Garbisi’s low kick helping them to a 16-point lead.
The game got messier after the break with Wales’ discipline lacking and, if Italy had kicked straighter, the result would have been far beyond their opponents' reach, before the visitors forced a flattering scoreline late on. Aaron Wainwright touched down following a lineout drive and then a penalty try was awarded in the 79th minute.
The defeat and a record-equalling eight straight reverses in Six Nations matches leave Wales and coach Warren Gatland with a lot of questions to answer before they host Ireland in a fortnight.
IRELAND AND SCOTLAND TO COME FOR WALES
