Scotland’s Richie Gray and Luke Crosbie have been ruled out of the Six Nations.
Having beaten Wales in dramatic style in their first match of the tournament, lock Gray and back row Crosbie will now miss the rest of Scotland’s campaign.
Gray has damaged a bicep while Crosbie has a shoulder problem, injuries sustained in the opening weekend’s 27-26 victory in Cardiff.
Full-back Blair Kinghorn is not expected to return for Saturday’s match with France at Murrayfield, still struggling with the knee issue that kept him out of the Wales clash.
In more positive news for Scotland, Grant Gilchrist returns from a ban and could replace Gray.
Gregor Townsend brought in Sam Skinner to his team to take over from Gilchrist in Cardiff, who stole two lineouts.
Winger Darcy Graham picked up a quadricep injury last month and is still missing from the squad, but he is expected to resume training with Edinburgh this week, along with experienced prop WP Nel.
Townsend is hoping that co-captain Rory Darge should be fit in time for this weekend’s home match after not featuring against Wales, while Jack Dempsey and Andy Christie provide the head coach with other back row options.
Meanwhile, France second row Paul Willemse will miss the matches against Scotland and Italy after receiving a two-game ban for his red card in the defeat against Ireland.
Willemse was dismissed following a bunker review for a high tackle on Caelan Doris which followed a yellow card for a high hit on Andrew Porter.
The 31-year-old has been suspended for four weeks but will return in time to face England and Wales.
