"Fabien had a scan today (Tuesday) to check on the injury he suffered against Ireland on Sunday and the doctors decided he would not be fit to play at Lansdowne Road and maybe would also miss the game against Italy on March 23," he told Reuters.
The 33-year-old Galthie won the International Rugby Board 2002 player of year award on January 26 after leading France to a Six Nations grand slam last season.
"We'll take a decision tomorrow (Wednesday) when the selection committee meets in Lyon to name the 22-man squad to face Ireland but I think Dimitri Yachvili will probably be promoted to the starting line-up against Ireland," Maso added.
Yachvili, 22, plays club rugby for French champions Biarritz Olympique. He won two caps for France coming in as a substitute for Galthie when France defeated Canada last November and beat Scotland last weekend. He was on the replacement bench when they lost to England in their opening Six Nations game.
