Wales captain Jac Morgan has been ruled out of the rest of the Quilter Nations Series due to a shoulder injury.
Morgan suffered the injury while scoring a try for Wales in their 52-28 loss to Argentina.
Uncapped Ospreys team-mate Harri Deaves has been called up to replace Morgan ahead of Wales' match with Japan at Principality Stadium on Saturday, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
"We’re all gutted to lose Jac – he’s a world-class player, as well as a great man off the pitch," said Wales head coach Steve Tandy.
"But this gives an opportunity now for someone else and Harri has been performing strongly for the Ospreys for a consistent period."
Hooker Dewi Lake is set to take over from Morgan as captain.
Wales’ clash with Japan could have implications for their 2027 Rugby World Cup seeding.
They currently occupy the last spot in Band 2, one place ahead of Japan, who are looking to move up/ Wales and Japan split their two-Test series over the summer.
Wales finish their Quilter Nations Series campaign with back-to-back matches against New Zealand and world champions South Africa.
Morgan was the standout figure for Wales in the defeat against Argentina. But after storming over for a second-half try from a tap and go, he appeared in considerable pain and held his left arm as he trudged off.
Wales legends Dan Biggar and Sam Warburton both praised Morgan for his performance and impact on the game.
"Jac Morgan was head and shoulders above every other Welsh player on the pitch in terms of carries, turnovers, metres made, brilliant," said Biggar.

Warburton added: "I think the word 'world-class' gets bandied around too easy, but Jac is genuine world-class.
"He was brilliant in the summer with the Lions, he’s come back and he’s used that confidence to lead this team.
"Whether it’s both sides of the ball, carrying, tackling, competing over the ball, scoring tries, he’s such a smart, brave, intelligent player. He’s a really nice ball player too and is exactly what Wales need."
