BATH COME FROM BEHIND TO CLOSE OUT AN EIGHT-TRY THRASHING OF NEWCASTLE RED BULLS AT KINGSTON PARK
Bath came from behind to close out an eight-try thrashing of Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingston Park in the final match of Round 7.
Newcastle came out flying in the first half with Ollie Leatherbarrow scoring within five minutes to give the hosts an early lead, before Amanaki Mafi followed him up to cement their lead.
But with Dan Frost keeping Bath in touch with two tries in response and a third from Archie Griffin before the break, Bath regained the lead.
While Newcastle continued to create chances throughout the first half, they failed to convert in the crucial moments and soon enough gave themselves too much to recover after Francois van Wyk opened the second half with another try for the visitors.
Matters only got worse for the hosts as Bath unleashed their bomb squad bench, directly leading to tries from Will Butt, Tom de Glanville and Ted Hill.
But it was Ben Spencer's try which perfectly summarised the impact of Van Graan's bench as Cokanasiga capitalized on a Cameron Redpath's pass to run the length of the pitch, before offloading the ball to a fresh-legged Spencer.
It resulted in Bath taking home all the points up for grabs and cementing their place at the top of the Gallagher PREM table with a three-point advantage.
On the flip side, Newcastle’s struggles in the PREM continue as they head into their final match of the season without scoring a single point in 2025.

"WE JUST CALL IT THE BENCH"
Sam Underhill spoke to TNT after Bath's thrashing of Newcastle at Kingston Park.
He said: "We spoke before the game about sticking to our process and our system and how we want to play the game. Sort of the same message at half-time, a little bit on physicality, it's obviously a very fast track here. We did what we wanted to do, which you can always be happy with."
On the Bath Bomb Squad coming on: "We just call it the bench. We talk about impact. It's one of those things, you don't want to try too hard to make an impact.
"Johaan makes it easier with the amount of clarity he gives you. You don't feel like you're on the bench because you've been dropped, you feel like part of the team. You're clear about your role as part of the squad, you're there for a specific purpose to finish the game.
"He's also very clear about when you come on. Plans can change, but you know you're coming on at 50 or 60 minutes. It makes life easier.
"It's a different group. There's a nice level of familiarity. But there's a few new and younger lads coming through that are getting a lot of opportunities, so I'd say it feels different. But I love the club, I love the lads. It's a very special place to be, and I feel lucky to be part of it."

SUM UP BATH IN A TWEET:
Bath's performance tonight has sealed their spot at the top of the table heading into Christmas once again.

A WORD FROM OUR PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Dan Frost was awarded the Player of the Match after clinching two early tries for the visitors to keep them in the game after Newcastle came out firing.
He told TNT: "It's very pleasing, I think this is now the third year in a row top at Christmas. Newcastle's no pushover, always going to be a tough contest. So really happy to get five points and go top of the log."

He added: "It was always going to be a tight contest at the start. It was just how we came out the other end, and I thought we did well. We came out at half-time, got two tries and just kicked on from there.
"It's always nice to get over. I enjoyed myself. My biggest regret was shushing the crowd, and I'll never do that again. That was pretty embarrassing.
"He was just saying to stick on plan, and at some point they'll break. The quality we had on our bench to come on and finish the job, some bench."

FULL-TIME
And that's a wrap. Bath recovered well from an early setback. This game won't define Newcastle's season, as they were ultimately undone by the reigning champions.
But Newcastle now only have one more chance to get points in 2025.

IMPACTFUL BOMB SQUAD
Van Graan's decision to rest up some players has proven to be the right one.
The selection of key players on the bench to shake up the second half has completely bulldozed any momentum Newcastle thought they had and has given Bath the necessary fresh legs to dominate the second half.
The decision will prove decisive over the next few weeks, with two massive fixtures at the Rec for Bath, with title contenders Northampton visiting next weekend.

TRY! NEWCASTLE RED BULLS 14 - 43 BATH RUGBY (SPENCER)
Where have Newcastle's fire gone. Deep into their half Bath regained possession and out of nowhere the ball is passed up to the right wing, where it is met by Redpath. He passes it out further to Cokanasiga, who runs the length of the pitch before handing it off to Spencer to finish off a sensational run.
Newcastle were nowhere to be seen. This is a completely different half.
