GLOUCESTER KEEP TOP-FOUR HOPES ALIVE WITH BONUS POINT WIN
Gloucester picked up a much-needed 26-12 victory over Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park to give themselves an outside chance of making the top four.
Gloucester picked up a much-needed 26-12 victory over Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park to give themselves an outside chance of making the top four.
Newcastle Falcons stunned Gloucester early on by taking the lead, with Ben Stevenson going over in the corner.
Falcons captain Callum Chick made a great break down the left-hand side before finding Stevenson to score; Chick was making his final appearance at Kingston Park before his summer move to Northampton.
However, Gloucester fought back and in style, scoring three tries in eight minutes to put themselves out of sight.
Chris Harris brought the visitors back into the game, scoring under the posts after Gloucester put huge pressure on Newcastle’s 22’.
Chick was then awarded a yellow card for an infringement right on his own try line, and Gloucester were eventually awarded a penalty try after Cameron Neild collapsed their maul.
Neild was also awarded a yellow card, putting Newcastle down to 13 players, and Gloucester made the most of their advantage straight away through Seb Atkinson.
Atkinson played an excellent one-two with Tomos Williams, before charging through a huge gap to score.
Gloucester secured the bonus point victory when Jack Cotgreave finished off a fine move to score on his first Premiership start; Carreras started the move before finding Atkinson, who teed up Cotgreave.
The bonus point win means the Cherries and White still have a slim chance of making the top four if they are to beat Northampton in two weeks’ time and other results go their way.
Newcastle remain in last place and face a difficult trip to Leicester Tigers on the final day.

SALE IN DRIVING SEAT FOR A TOP FOUR SPOT AFTER BONUS POINT WIN OVER BRISTOL
Sale Sharks made huge progress in their chase for a top-four spot, leapfrogging Bristol Bears into third with a bonus point 41-27 victory over Bristol Bears.
The Sharks just require a victory over Exeter Chiefs on the final day to finish in the top four.
Dan du Preez gave the hosts the lead after a tense opening 23 minutes, scoring in the corner after some brilliant play from Ben Curry.
Harry Randall hit back for the visitors just a few minutes later, scoring an excellent breakaway try after producing a brilliant dummy pass to send the defender the wrong way.
Sale continued to pick up points through the boot of George Ford, who slotted every attempt through the posts in typical fashion.
Tagh McElroy scored right at the end of the first half to extend Sale’s lead to 15 points, diving over from the back of a ruck after a sustained period of Sale pressure.
Villiame Mata gave Bristol a lifeline at the start of the second half, bundling over from the back of a maul, for his second try in as many matches.
However, Sale Sharks were simply too good on the night for their opponents and added a further two tries in the second half to secure a much-needed bonus point victory.
Jonny Hill scored the hosts’ third try with a clever piece of play, taking a quick free-kick from five yards out, before diving over the line.
Rekeiti Ma’asi White secured the bonus points with 15 minutes to play, finishing off an excellent line-out move.
Sale were not finished there, though, as substitute Raffi Quirke produced some dazzling feet to beat three defenders and score.
Bristol fought back with minutes to play, scoring twice in the final minutes through Harry Byrne and Kalaveti Ravouvou to secure a bonus point, which could be crucial come the end of the season.
Sale face Exeter Chiefs on the final week of the season, knowing a win will secure them a top-four spot, whilst Bristol face Harlequins at Ashton Gate needing a win and results to go their way.

GLOUCESTER KEEP TOP-FOUR HOPES ALIVE WHILST BRISTOL FALTER
Gloucester Rugby kept their dreams of a top-four position alive with a bonus-point victory over Newcastle Falcons, whilst Bristol’s defeat at Sale leaves them in a dangerous position.
Gloucester bounced back from last weekend’s damaging defeat to Harlequins to secure all five points at Kingston Park, which sees them move within two points of fourth-placed Bristol Bears.
The Bears were also in action tonight against Sale Sharks, but came out second best, losing 41-29 to third-placed Sale Sharks at Salford Community Stadium.
Harry Byrne secured a late bonus point for Bristol, scoring their fourth try of the match with just minutes remaining, but Saracens can now leapfrog them with a victory over reigning champions Northampton Saints tomorrow.
Gloucester can still make the final four if they are to beat Northampton on the final day and other results go their way.
For the first time in a while, Bristol are now no longer in control of their own destiny and they will rue a missed opportunity tonight after beating league leaders Bath Rugby last time out.
Bath have already guaranteed a home semi-final with Leicester Tigers set to join them, but the final two playoff spots are set to go down to the last weekend, with Bristol, Gloucester and Saracens all with a chance of finishing in the top four.
We are set for a thrilling final weekend of Gallagher Premiership action, which you can watch LIVE on TNT Sports and discovery+

GEORGE FORD: I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW WE FINISHED THE GAME
"I am disappointed with how we finished the game, we know what is required for us to achieve what we want to achieve this year and that last five minutes was not good enough.
"These games at the end of the year will be won and lost at the death, we will have to go away and look at things.
"The outcome of five points is brilliant as we needed to respond to last week, where we were disappointing.
"We are where we are now, we have a couple of weeks to prepare for Exeter, and we have stuff to improve on.
"The attack feels good, there are many things that make it work, such as the work rate for the boys on and off the ball.
"We are just trying to join everything up together and make things work.
"It is unforgiving this league. We know Exeter are a great team, and we need to maximise these next couple of weeks because, like I said, there are good aspects of our game and aspects we need to get better at," said George Ford to TNT Sports.
