Saracens, after sitting somewhat comfortably in second, slip down to fourth and will face Bath in their semi-final.
Sale's win sees them take third and set up a date with table toppers Saints in the playoffs.
Bristol put 53 points on Quins at home but due to Sale's heroic feats, won't see the playoffs this season.
