A confident Welsh side notched up 14 converted tries in little more than a training exercise against opponents who had conceded 100 points to Scotland earlier this month.
Wales coach Mike Ruddock said the "excitement factor" was back in Welsh rugby following on from narrow defeats to South Africa and New Zealand in the November internationals.
"We asked the boys to go out there and entertain the crowd and that's what they did," said Ruddock.
"The coaches have a bit of work to do after tonight, but overall it's been a good autumn series. The excitement factor is definitely back."
Japan held out for just three minutes before back-rower Charvis breached their flimsy defence and the hosts added another four tries by the 20-minute mark and led 56-0 at half-time.
Wales continued to attack relentlessly in the second half but just failed to reach a century of points.
In addition to Charvis, Tom Shanklin (three), Shane Williams (two), Rhys Williams (two), Mefin Davies, Gethin Jenkins and Gareth Cooper were try scorers. Centre Gavin Henson converted all 14 tries.
