Great Britain came into the match against Canada - who ranked above them - on the back of two consecutive wins against Brazil and then Japan.
They took a surprise 5-0 lead, and then doubled their advantage with seconds before the end of the first half.
Emily Scarratt made it 15 with a dash to the corner, and added five more from her own interception. By winning Group C, they will hope to have secured themselves a favourable draw in the next round.
They followed that up later in the evening with a crushing 26-7 win over Fiji.
