Well that's it from us, but what a way to finish the weekend! And the best thing is we do it all again - for one more time this year - next week at Mont-Sainte-Anne, so join us for that one too!
Men's Elite Cross-Country Olympic Standings: Round 7
Here's how things stand:
- 1. Nino Schurter - 1433
- 2. Jordan Sarrou - 1344
- 3. Mathias Fluckiger - 1266
- 4. Luca Schwarzbauer - 1213
- 5. Thomas Griot - 1086
- 6. Joshua Dubau - 996
- 7. Alan Hatherly - 981
- 8. Lars Forster - 952
- 9. Martins Blums - 866
- 10. Vlad Dascalu - 839
Schurter: A tough, tough, tough race
Schurter might've seemed more disappointed to miss out on the win, but just looked happy with second in Snowshoe:
It was close, it was a tough race, tough from the beginning. From the start it was all suffereing but it paid off, nice to get the second place, good for the overall but it was a tough one for me."
Pidcock confirms: I punctured twice
It looked like Pidcock's second stop in the tech zone might've been to change onto a different tyre, but he's just confirmed he punctured again.
Bit frustrating really, two flats in one lap, I did the best I could to get back to the front but there wasn't enough time left.
I think I got into a rhythm a little bit for half a lap, before I punctured again. Once I hit my rhythm, it all went to ****."
Pidcock up next...
Reaction from the world champion coming up very shortly
Sarrou: It went to plan
Jordan Sarrou spoke straight after that blockbuster victory:
"It was a close race, I had a gap for two laps but I didn't push hard. I tried to keep my pace and they catch me up last-lap and I could sprint for my first win ever, it's incredible.
I was afraid about a flat tyre because a lot of flats were going on but I keep my focus and I did it!"
21:50 - Take a bow Sarrou
The Frenchman led two laps on his own there but his race looked over once Sarrou and Guerrini caught up. Yet somehow, some way he found enough for one last dig to overcome Schurter, who's taken a giant step towards overall World Cup victory.
21:49 - SARROUUUUUUUUU
WHAT. A. RACE!!!!!!! Jordan Sarrou outsprints Schurter off the final bend to win, where did he find that from? What was that race? Guerrini third, Fluckiger fourth and Pidcock secures a fully deserved top-five finish.
21:48 - Schurter into the lead!!
Guerrini can't follow his compatriot, Nino Schurter leads with a few metres to go!!! It's a sprint with Sarrou...
21:46 - Stalemate in top three
Guerrini continues to lead but Schurter just looks like he's biding his time for the race-winning move, Sarrou is also right with them.
21:43 - Guerrini hits the front!
WE HAVE A LEAD CHANGE!!! For the first time since lap four there's a new rider at the front, and it's Guerrini. He's blasts past Sarrrou uphill, with Schurter still on his tail and 13 seconds to Pidcock. His charge is fading but he's done so well just to be in this position.
21:42 - Mistake from Fluckiger
Mistake came undone on the root section there, which has allowed the chasing trio to close right up. He stays on his bike but was forced to unclip at the worst possible moment.
21:40 - Swiss coming strong
Pidcock is just four seconds away from the lead froup now, with the quiet Thomas Griot sitting sixth at eight seconds off the lead. Still can't call it...
21:39 - Lap 7/7
Sarrou leads them onto the final lap:
- 1. Sarrou Lap 7
- 2. Guerrini +1
- 3. Schurter +2
- 4. Fluckiger +2
- 5. Blums +5
- 6. Griot +7
- 7. Pidcock +13
21:38 - About to enter the final lap
It's all coming together as Sarrou climbs up to start the last lap, WHAT A RACE!!! Genuinely can't call it between at least five riders.
21:35 - Pidcock fights back
He's now just 15 seconds behind that Swiss trio, and Schwarzbauer's not much further back either. Up front, Sarrou could be starting to flag a bit?
21:33 - Sarrou responds
He's built that gap back out for BMC, up to ten seconds down the latest descent and Sarrou isn't holding anything back. The Swiss trio are altogether again and well within visible distance.
21:31 - Bit between his teeth
Sarrou is piling on the pressure up front. He's hurling the kitchen sink at these rocky descents but Mathuias Fluckiger has really closed the gap now, attacking World Cup rival Schurter.
21:29 - Lap 6/7
As we start the penultimate lap, Sarrou is holding that gap at the front and has just set the fastest lap of the race. Schwarzbauer and Pidcock remain half a minute behind while the three Swiss riders sit second-fourth. It's anyone's race.
21:27 - Chaos in Snowshoe
What a race we're having! It's been a cracking weekend but this has been the best entertainment yet, favourites dropping away left and right while Koretzky, Schurter and Fluckiger have all yet to make their big moves so far.
21:25 - 16-second gap up front
Jordan Sarrou has inherited a quarter-minute lead but he's done all the right things so far, the Swiss are chasing hard led by Schurter and Guerrini, can they make an impact?
21:24 - FLAT Tyre FOR Schwarzbauer!!
Oh no! Schwarzbauer had been so strong until now but he's suffered a flat rear. and Sarrou is alone up front.
21:23 - what about Sarrou?
It's that man in second yet again, Jordan Sarrou hasn't made his big move yet has been an ever-present in the podium positions.
21:22 - SCHURTER OFF
It's only momentarily, but Schurter bounced off the pedals on the uphill root section and a four-second gap has opened up to second place. The World Cup leader is good to continue though...
21:20 - Pidcock back into the pits!!
Pidcock stopped at the smaller tech zone initially, but stopped at the main pits to start the fifth lap, switching off the mud tyre and emerging in 16th, half a minute back. Schwarzbauer contiues to lead.
21:19 - Lap 5/7
Schwarzbauer has been limited to a reactionary role over the last lap or so but now he's stamping his authority back onto the race as we hit three laps to go.
21:18 - Schurter piles on the pain
It's starting to kickoff big-time now, Schurter puts in a big dig and World Cup rival Fluckiger is right there with him.
21:16 - Pidcock in ninth
He's back in the leading group, just about, sat nine seconds back! Vlad Dascalu just had a rooty moment casuing more chaose behind but he continues.
21:15 - Pace slows at the front
Koretzky immediately put in a dig out of the tech zone but things have come back together at the front, Schurter has made the biggest move to slingshot himself into third! It's all happening...
21:14 - FLAT TYRE FOR PIDCOCK!!!
Wow, that was unexpected. Pidcock suffered a front flat tyre and has plummeted down the timesheets! Koretzky now leads, just awaiting the world champion's new position.
21:11 - Pidcock goes again!!!
He put another dig in there but Koreztky was equal to it, Sarrou is also at the front before Schwarzbauer is five seconds back in fourth.
21:10 - Pidcock makes a move
He really likes that sprint up the right after the start/finish line, and Pidcock uses that run again to move into second. No, FIRST! Schwarzbaeur blocked him off at first but couldn't keep the world champion behindforverm he's made his more and only Koretzky can follow right now as they dive into the wooded rock zone.
21:08 - Lap 4/7
Schwarzbauer again starts the next lap, all the usual suspects remain at the front!
21:04 - Throw a blanket over them!
It's so tight at the front, the top 11 looked like the GC group on an Alpine finish of the Tour de France there! There's been a few gaps open and close but nothing definitve yet, before Vital Albin is a few seconds off in 17th.
21:03 - Aldridge down
Charlie Aldridge just hit the deck on the downhill rock garden near the start of the lap, he's now slipped to 19th but looks good to continue.
21:02 - Blums hits the front
We've had a bit of a washing-machine effect up front and now it's Blum's turn to hit the front! Koretzky and Schwarzbauer remain just behind though.
21:00 - Lap 3/7
As they cross the line to start the third lap, championship Mathias Fluckinger has broken into the top ten at the expense of leader Schurter.
That could prove a huge move with the World Cup still up for grabs...
20:59 - We have a new challenger
Marcel Guerrini has come from nowhere to hit second-place, he's been hanging around the back of the stop ten until now but races up across the start-finish line.
20:56 - Pack closes up again
Schurter's pulled that gap back in, driving uphill to close in on ninth-placed Martins Blums.
20:53 - Koretzky biding his time?
Victor Koretzky looks content to let Schwarzbauer take the lead for now but he keeps having a look around the German, and looks just like he's biding his time.
Laura Stigger made her race-winning move at the end of lap two earlier, will the Frenchman do the same? Still a little way to go until that stage.
20:51 - Aldridge falls away
It was a super-strong start by Charlie Aldridge but he's fading hard now, down to 12th. Right now the first separation is between sixth and seven, Schurter can't close the five-second gap to Hatherly.
20:49 - Lap 2/7
As hinted, we're onto lap two now. Scharzbauer leads from Koretzky and Sarrou, with a gap just forming momentarily behind fourth-placed Vlad Dascalu.
20:48 - Pidcock surges into top 5
I promise this isn't just the Tom Pidcock Show, but he's been the most dynamic rider of the race so far. The World Champ just flew up the start-finish straight all the way up past Aldridg before diving into the tech zone to grab a bottle.
20:46 - Schurter into top 10
He's not the only big name edging into contention, championship leader Nino Schurter is into ninth.
20:44 - Pidcock enters the fray
Pidcock is just one rider away from making contact with the front group, which is still led by Koretzky. The world champion aside, it's a bit of a stalemate right not but that could explode at any moment,
20:41 - Still no real separation
Koreztky has hit the front, and there's not much separation at the top! The top six are starting to break away but nothing near definiteive yet as they dive into a downhill section.
20:38 - Lap 1/7
Schwarzbauer is the first to dispatch the start loop, with the French pair of Koreztzky and Sarrou close behind.
20:36 - Pidcockwatch
We've finally got a time check on Pidcock, he's 18th at 13 seconds behind Aldridge, who's just lost the lead to Luca Schwarzbauer. If that doesn't say how tight the field is, I don't know what does.
20:33 - Koretzky into second
Victor Koretzky lost out slightly at the start but has fought back up to second, there's no gaps in the pack until well into the field here - still Aldridge leads with all to play for.
20:31- Hatherly rockets up
Alan Hatherly started 16th but he's up to 2nd already! It's a Cannondale 1-2, Tom Pidcock is around 15th.
20:30 - We are go go go!
Charlie Aldridge leads early in the British champion's jersey, Jordan Sarrou made a good getaway too.
Start incoming
In-form Victor Koretzky is the last rider out before staff and media clear the start grid!
Five minutes to go...
The riders are lining up on the startline, including world champion Tom Pidcock, we're very nearly underway! He's not the only Brit in contention either, national champion Charlie Aldridge has just rolled onto the startline in fifth.

Men's Cross Country Olympic T-30
And with all that excitement out the way, it's just half an hour until the men take on the course at Snowshoe for the final race of the weekend! Tom Pidcock is on the startlist but it's Friday's short-track winner Victor Koreztky who'll lead us off this evening.
Women's Elite Cross-Country Olympic Standings: Round 7
The podium celebrations are all over, so it's time to look at the overall standings on the day that Puck Pieterse was crowned champion!
- 1. Puck Pieterse - 1741
- 2. Mona Mitterwallner - 1352
- 3. Loana Lecomte - 1211
- 4. Alessandra Keller - 1188
- 5. Laura Stigger - 1184
- 6. Pauline Ferrand Prevot - 1157
- 7. Martina Berta - 1122
- 8. Evie Richards - 1116
- 9. Anne Terpstra - 1049
- 10 Jenny Risveds - 995
Richards: I pushed too hard
The reaction keeps on coming, this time from seventh-placed Brit Evie Richards:
It was really hard! I wanted a good start because yesterday in the woods it was chaos but maybe I pushed a bit hard first lap. It's not a bad day, I might've got a tan as well!
I was excited and wanted to push on the first but but then realised oh my gosh I've got six laps of this. I held the pace and got good points."
Berta: Not another sixth!
This podium has been a long time coming for Martine Berta:
I'm really happy, so today I just said to my coach I want to try and if I blew up it doesn't matter, and finally it worked. I tried to close on Laura but I think today she was strongest and in the downhill she was really flying.
In the end Loana came back and I saw there were other girls so I just said to myself 'Not another time sixth'."
Lecomte: The course wasn't for me
Loana Lecomte finished second in a strong comeback ride... Despite not even liking the course at Snowshoe!
I'm very surprised because at the beginiing I thought it'd be a very long race. But then I felt better and I'm very happy because it's a very strange race, it's like cyclocross or a road race, it's not really for me."
Pieterse: Overall was on my mind
Puck Pieterse claimed the World Cup championship in her first year at elite level:
It's crazy, in my mind I was busy with the overall. The first descent after the bridge four of the six laps I had to cliip out. I felt like I was really strong on the climbs but I couldn't catch up more with Jolanda.
Stay with us
The final race of the weekend, the mens' Cross-Country Olympic, is coming up so stick around for that! We'll have more raction and highlights from the womens' race, on the day Puck Pieterse clinched the women's overall World Cup.
Stigger: I had no strategy
If Laura Stigger can win like that with no strategy, imagine what she can do with some tactics?!?
It's amazing, it's just emotional and I just have to thank everyone, they're supporting me every second, in every hard situation. I didn't have any strategy today, I just wante to listen to my body, go my pace and I had so much fun."
19:25 - Top 10 Result
After all that exctement, here's now they finished in Snowshoe:
- 1. Laura Stigger 1:21:56
- 2. Loana Lecomte +23
- 3. Martina Berta +32
- 4. Savilia Blunk +38
- 5. Jolanda Neff +46
- 6. Puck Pieterse +55
- 7. Evie Richards +1:07
- 8. Haley Batten +1:36
- 9. Jenny Rissveds +1:36
- 10. Mona Mitterwallner +1:37
19:23 - podiums, champions
Lecomte and Berta held on for second and third, while Puck Pieterse is your OVERALL WORLD CUP CHAMPION for 2023!
19:22 - STIGGER WINS IN SNOWSHOE!
It's a first World Cup Olympic cross-country win for Laura Stigger! She made her move just before the start of the third lap and never looked back...
19:20 - Champion in waiting
Pieterse is looking good for the overall title, she needs to finish within 23 points of Mona Mitterwallner and remains over 45 seconds ahead of the Austrian despite a late slump.
19:18 - Stigger holding strong
The gap had shrunk a few more seconds but Stigger's just grown it back to 19s and could be dafe here. Pieterse continues to plummet, with Richards the latest rider to pass by the champion-in-waiting, a minute behind the leader.
19:16 - Battle for 3rd
In all the excitement up front, the battle for third is also coming down to the wire! So far Berta is holding strong, ahead of Blunk and Neff by 6 and 13 seconds respectively.
19:14 - Stigger makes a mistake
Stigger nearly came off there, going sideways in the mud uphill but somehow staying on and in the pedals. But Lecomte still can't even see the Austrian, has she left herself too much to do?
19:12 - 19 seconds in it
Lecomte opted for the hardtail today and did that cost her over the rocks? She's still 19 seconds behind Stigger, the French rider is definitely fresher but can she make the difference?
19:10 - Lap 6/6
Stigger leads the race onto the final lap, 22 seconds ahead of Lecomte. Berta's third right now but Blunk and Neff are both making real headway towards the final podium position.
19:09 - Stigger counter-attacks
Laura Stigger responds brilliantly to that counter-attack, putting a few seconds back into Lecomte on the uphill section before the end of the lap.
19:07 - Lecomte makes her move
Could we have a race on our hands?!?!? Loana Lecomte has played the waiting game all race but has remained just about in touch with the leaders throughout, and she's now cleared Berta for second. It's a 25-second gap to Stigger, and that's shrinking.
19:06 - Richards slows again
Evie Richards remains the top Brit in the race but after pacing up to the top six with Trek teammate Jolanda Neff, she's dropped off the pace and is in no-man's land with 15 seconds in front and behind.
19:04 - Lecomte breaking free
After making that huge effort to pace back within touching distance of Berta for second, Blunk has fallen off the podium and left Lecomte looking good for a metal of some description.
Up front, Stigger still reigns supreme.
19:00 - Top 10 update
Here's how things stand:
- 1. Stigger 59:00
- 2. Berta +28
- 3. Lecomte +30
- 4. Pieterse +35
- 5. Blunk +36
- 6. Neff +1:00
- 7. Richards +1:00
- 8. Batten +1:15
- 9. Bohe +1:32
- 10. Gibson +1:34
18:58 - Lap 5/6
Richards and Neff have just wound in Haley Batten, while outside the top 10, Mitterwallner and early race leader Henderson with 12th and 17th respectively.
18:56 - Berta dropping back
Savilia Blunk is pulling herself, Lecomte and Pieterse back into contention for second here as Berta continues to lose time to Stigger.
18:54 - Richards closes on top six
Batten's kept on dropping from that mistake in the trees, and Great Britain's Evie Richards is dragging herself back into top six contention for Trek, now within ten seconds of the American.
18:52 - half a minute at the front
With about half a lap to go until we're on the penultimate circuit, It's now a 28-second gap from Stigger to second-placed Berta. The Austrian is just looking so so strong!
18:50 - Batten off again
Batten's struggled a couple of times through that uphill wooded section and she's off yet again, though Lecomte pulled a quick one to zoom around her despite the tight track and keep on trucking.
18:48 - Lap 4/6
We're actually well into lap 4, with the riders heading uphill after the rock zone, Pieterse remains third but Lecomte and the two Americans look ready to strike behind her.
18:44 - gap getting bigger
Berta's trying her best but she can't put any time into Stigger as the Austrian approaches the end of the third lap. With the gap at 12 seconds, is it to early to be talking about the battle for second?
18:40 - Race picture settles
Fourth-placed Pieterse is now ten seconds off the podium, with leader Sitgger, Berta and Batten about five seconds apart each.
18:37 - Batten off and Running
Batten is the next to come undone, on an uphill wooded section she lost her line and needed to run the rest of the ascent, before remounting four seconds behind Berta.
18:36 - Foot out from Pieterse!
This Sitgger attack has rattled the World Cup leader, Pieterse just had to unclip in the tree section and has dropped a few seconds to Batten and Berta.
18:34 - Lap 3/6
Stigger is the first rider to take the third lap, and Pierterse crosses the line nine seconds back with Berta and Batten in tow. Then there's another gap to Savilla Blunk and Lecomte, before Evie Richards at 23 seconds behind.
18:33 - What a move!
Laura Stigger has put in a big attack and distanced the chasing pack behind, led by Haley Batten... Stigger's teammate. It's a six-second gap right now...
18:30 - Mitterwallner looks down and out
Mitterwallner's season has been characterised by weak starts and strong recoveries, but that doesn't look like happening here. She's fought her way to 11th but is a massive 45 seconds off the lead.
18:28 - Richards in touch... just
Evie Richards is just abaout within touch of the front group. She's about 10 seconds back but can see all the riders in front of her.
18:26 - Henderson makes her break
Rebecca Henderson looked like she was drifting away earlier but she's now hit the front of the race, taking just Puck Pieterse with her. Martina Berta isn't far behind though...
18:24 - Courtney hits the deck
Unlucky for some, Kate Courtney started this race with the number 13 and has just come off in the tree section, that's a tough break.
18:22 - Lap 2/6
That last time check was at the start of the second lap, four more to go!
18:21 - top eight make the cut
There's been a but of tooing and froing between the front group and stragglers just behind, but the first big cut in the race is after the top eight - from Loana Lecomte to Jolanda Neff.
That's amlmost a 20-second gap, with world championship runner-up Mona Mitterwallner struggling to close that down.
18:18 - Top three separate
Almost as soon as I wrote that Richards comment she dropped out of the frontrunners, there's now three riders at the front who's made clear separation for the first time in the race.
Berta leads the group, with Pieterse and Henderson a with a second.
18:17 - Mitterwallner makes up ground
The exception to those big guns is Mona Mitterwallner, who had a difficult start and found herself down in 27th early doors, half a minute behind.
However, she's made up grood ground as the pack has thinned out and now sits 13th, 21 seconds back.
18:15 Richards looking strong
It's pretty much all the big guns at the front in Snowshoe but Evie Richards looks right at home, she's led for the whole first lap so far and this has to be her best start to a race this season.
18:13 - Henderson struggling to keep touch
Pieterse momentarily lost contact with the top three but it's Henderson who's really struggling just to keep in touch with the lead five.
18:11 - Home struggles
The Americans rode out to a vociferous home support but Haley Batten just had to dive into the tech zone while Gwendalyn Gibson got stuck momentarily in the rock zone.
18:09 - Lap 1/6
We've finished the start loop, and the top six are just finding a bit of separation.
The order keeps changing but right now it's Evie Richards, Puck Pieterse, Laura Stigger, Martina Berta, Loana Lecomte and Rebecca Henderson stamping their authority on proceedings.
18:07 - race settles
Mitterwallner is still stuck in 25th 31 seconds behind Pieterse who's rolling turns on the front with Richards, Berta and Loana LeComte.
18:05 - 27th for Mitterwallner!
It's a nightmare for the Austrian, she's been clocked at 27th! Up front, Keller leads the pack.
18:03 - Mitterwallner stuck behind
Mona Mitterwallner sits second in the world championships but she's been caught as the track bottlenecks, slipping well down the order.
Championship leader Puck Pierterse moves to the front to take advantage.
18:02 - Richards loses lead
Laura Stigger snuck through the tech zone to take the lead but it's still tight at the top with Richards third. No one looks too hurt from that crash either.
18:00 - We are go go go!
It's green, they're racing and Evie Richards has take the lead early doors! She had to fight hard against Martina Berta and Alessandra Keller, there was a crash behind.
Start incoming
There's just moments until we get going, it's a sunny day in West Virginia, the start grid has cleared and it's just the riders at the tapes ready to go.
Last time out
As the riders line up, Alessandra Keller is on the front row after finishing fourth in the short track. She was the winner a year ago in Snowshoe, ahead of Jenny Rissveds who's just been announced to the crowd, and Anne Terpstra.
Just a few minutes ago, we hope you're as excited as we are!
Richards coy on race strategy
After speaking on TV ahead of the race, we know that Richards is listing to a remix of a song that she doesn't know the name of, and that she's keeping her cards close to her chest for the race in five minutes' time.
I can't tell you that can I, that's a secret! You'll have to find out, won't you?
I'm dead excited to race, it feels a bit sad that there's only two left!"
Richards in form
Britain's Evie Richards has already tasted victory this weekend, notching a dominant short track win on Friday by five seconds. She'll be getting underway in 10 minutes with the rest of the women's field, Victor Koretzky was the men's short track champion at Snowshoe.
Hello and welcome!
Good morning, good afternoon or good evening wherever you're joining us from in the world, and welcome to the cross-country Olympic elite races for the Mountain Bike World Cup from Snowshoe!
Tom Pidcock will be in action later for the men's race but first up it's the women's event, starting in just 15 minutes' time.
